Full Version: Pro-X shock re-valving

After a year and a half I finally got enough time on the sled to dial in the suspension. I did manage to get the front where I like it, but, I'm still not happy with the skid. I want it tuned down just a wee little bit. Where's a good place to send the shocks to be worked on? TIA.

did you try the next softer set of springs??

No, I'm sure the problem/cure is in the shocks. It rides smooth at 40+ MPH, but at lower, riding with the other half speeds, it is just a little stiff. If it was the spring rate, it would still ride stiff at 40+. I'm trying to find a balance between family riding and with the boys riding. In a normal year the time is usually 50/50.

Because of the rear suspension geometry that could be quite a task. I've been experimenting with alternate rear track shock valving. Currently on the 5th generation shim map. The sled rides very well through the trail junk at speed. Argueably better than any other sled. It's the low speed valving that I'm having trouble with. I've dialed in the center shock with a 120# spring and went extremely light on the low speed valving on the rear. I'm still struggling with the intermediate shim size. I'm going to try the two stage approach one more time. If this latest set up doesn't work, it'll be time to try a three stage. Right now it's either too light or too heavy. Like I can't get enough transition with a two stage valve stack. Medium speed rebound has been an ongoing problem with the 136" track. It would rear it's ugly head on the big rollers. The high snowX seat exaggerated the rebound. Last weekend I completely eliminated it. ylsuper.gif I'll keep you posted on further findings.

That would be great. I suppose, as a last resort I could pick up a standard EDGE skid and swap it in there for the family trips.

I too am looking for a softer valving setup for my 03 PROX7.
The rear skid is too much compression damping, particularily the low speed compression and just a little too much rebound.

The front shocks are ridiculously stiffly sprung and compression/rebound damping.
They are not stroking fully at all and the rebound damping makes the shocks slam against the spring retainer!

What is the various "generations" of valving you refer to?

I am going to use the 120lb front track spring and probably the sofest rear torsion springs. Need a valving setup to use for this, something with a lot less low speed compression damping. Also need a valving suggestion for the same for the front shocks, will probably use softer springs here too.
I weigh 185, ride fairly hard in ther trail junk but don't jump too often. Will accept occasional bottoming rather than overly stiff action.

Is there a stiffer sway bar for the PROX front end? The wimpy oem sway bar allows too much roll. Would like to use a 5/8 bar like the old XC used.
