Ride On

Hey everybody. Its sad but true, ridin is over for the season around here. I am goin to get a new sled for next year and was lookin around. I saw that Yamaha has come out with the FX Nitro MTX. I was kinda checkin into it. Its a cross between a Phazer and an Apex. I was just wonderin if you guys have heard anything or have any opinions about it.

Looks like a nice sled to me. Would like to see some ride reports first. 135hp of 4stroke torque should pull real hard through the whole range and I thought they are just over 500#s dry so not exactly light but definetly good for a 135hp 4stroke. From what I can tell the frame looks better suited for mtn riding as far as flotation compared to the phazer and nice ergos. I think its probably the best 4stroke option out there if your looking for a 2stroke replacement not a turboed apex but its still tough to go 4stroke when you can get a 450# dry 2stroke that makes over 140hp. I guess the reliability of the 4stroke and the fit and finish yamaha provides has to be the selling point. Thats just my opinion on it all though. Were planning to rent one out west for a day next winter to see what we think of it.

got to ride one. its impressive. it pulled harder on the bottom end than an apex mountain...comparable to any good new 800 2stroke. im trying to get on this fall, the test ride sold me.

The Nitro comes in at 585 lbs without gas, 630 lbs. with gas. It has a 7.4 gallon tank. It won't be within 50 lbs. of the other new 800's.
The Dragon 800 is rated at 154 HP, Xp 151 HP and M8 146 HP.
If you take it out west don't expect to "be comparable to any new 800 2stroke." That is unless you put on a turbo or SC...then look out!
Nice sled though. Yamaha is getting closer and that's good to see because one day we may all be riding 4 strokes.

Wow, most fun sled i've ever ridden by FAR!!!!!!!!
Initial thought on the trail up to the good stuff was: a little tippy, but used to it from the REV w/ out sway bar. Got in the fresh (had to break trail in about 2 feet of soft snow with good 3-6 foot base) and wow does this sled feel light and nimble, threw it around without having to move running board to board using very little body language. I would say that this sled is going to shine in the TIGHT trees, i picked a few lines and the machine followed without much effort. Climbing: The sled does very well, the front end floats good and the track seems to pack the snow and stay on top pretty good. I still wasn't pulling the full 8600-8650 RPM's (i think mostly due to the motor being tight / new) so once break-in is over and the RPM's are spot on it should climb real good. The steering post angle was a bit odd, but by the end of the 1st day didn't even think about it again. My arms didn't get sore like a standard angled post w/ high bars. I'm 5'11" and the sled was set up perfect from the factory for me IMO! The trail ride back to town, i think it was just 1st few miles on the new sled why it felt tippy, on the way back i was tearing around corners w/ little ski lift.
The exhaust is off and the new one is ready to fab, it should drop about 20 lbs! I will post pics when all completed, hopefully soon i'd like to ride next weekend!
I will keep updating after each mod / ride!

Would like to try the U.P., but don't think i can make it happen. Next weekend (dec 8 & 9) is a definite as long as the snow is good.

So now that you've had the sled for a while.. What do you think now?

I rode one up in the UP briefly and thought it would/could be my next mountain sled....that was before I actually got to spend some time on one in real snow outwest in CookeCity.THEY ARE TANKS!!! OMG I have never ridden a sled that was so unnerving to throw around, you could not roll it onto its side with any confidence and when it did finally roll over it rolled all the way over with little to no time to react to it.I have never been on my back so many times trying to figure out how to relearn how to carve a schoolbus.I will admit I liked the ergos and the sound coming from the tailpipe but after 45 minutes of wrestling that pig back onto its track I had enough and vowed right then and there that there would NOT be a 4Tank in my stable.....

That's much different then anyone else's opinion that i've seen..... Wrong set up? Way easier and confident throwing the nytro around then my 04 rev summit!
