What would you guys recommend to Summerize the motor in my 02 xc 700. Fog it, just put a little oil in the cylinders? and drain the carbs?

drain the carbs, maybe a ounce or two of fuel in the drains. Pour dino oil down the plug holes and slowely turn it over.
Grease it and get it off the floor.

i was taught this by a dealer. to fog i siphon out the gas. add back in a quart of gas mixed about 10/1 gas/oil. start it and let it smoke. add more oil. watch the smoke. shut her down and ready to store. i generally spray some fog oil down the spark plug hole for good measure although unnecesssary. i store in dry garage.

the primary clutch has not been off in two seasons so will pull it, clean up shaft and re torque.

i also add Stable. never drain carbs . and never a problem in 30 years.

I first clean everything, including the clutches, and check for broken parts. I then take the airbox off and start the sled. I spray fogging oil into each carb and let the sled die on its own. I then pour about 1 ounce of oil into each spark plug hole and turn over the clutch slowly. I then drain all the gas out the bottom of the carbs, and siphon it all out of the tank. I grease everything and support the sled so its not sitting on the shocks and springs all summer. I spray some lube on the shock seals, and then stuff some steel wool in the exhaust outlet so no mice get in there.

i park my sleds in an open field uncovered so the sun warps the hood. Then its a mod sled.

HAHAHA

Seriously, have your dealer do it man.

yeah, i am lazy. I just let the dealer do it cause i am not a mechanic, and they look the thing over to see if anything else is messed up. Thats my insurance. I'd rather pay them to do it right, then have me screw it up. My manual dexterity is poor.
HSR
Well piped600 start now and in a few years you'll be enuff of a mechanic to take care of it yourself, its easy.I do what chuck said on this post myself.IMHO the only way to stay in this sport is to do it yourself.Too much $$$$$$ going to the dealer for anything other than a sled and parts not available or good enuff in the aftermarket. So your saying you aren't too lazy to jerk off or is that what the prettty lady in your avatar is for??? smiley-faces7.gif bowdown.gif

It's not the dollar's that keep us doing our own maintenance, it's the pride & satisfaction that we get from looking after our own investment.
HSR
Naaahh its all about the $$$$$$$.If I was a millionaire I'd pay someone to do it exactly how I wanted.
