Hi guys......Checked out my stock Z airbox and clutch cover this weekend, (finally got my new sled out of the dealer after waiting on a special stud package), and am wondering what mods you do to effect better airflow on the box. Seems there is a 'drilled' shelf inside and a couple of down tubes - what's the set-up, do you gut it? And if so has anyone dyno'd the change? On the clutch cover, do you lose the black plastic side piece or just drill the whole thing? Thanks. Pics of sled, (with some cosmetic mods), attached - I hope!
Cheers,

Doo has the air box pretty well set up. We tried gutting them and it hurt the performance. Remove the whole plastic cover on the clutch gaurd. Maybe someone else has found differently, but thats what we found. What did you do for studs. I'm running the woody's 7 degree angled backers and love them!!!

Take the plastic off the clutch cover.
Order the #2 option from Extreme Moto Design.
It takes off 1.75 pounds and opens up the area to get
rid of the heat to the clutchs. You can go to the big air intake if you
are going to be running NOS and twin pipes.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Rodder.......I went with 192 Gold Diggers studs (1.325's) with 7 degree backers and deeper frame rails. Pic attached.

make shure you have added the tall protectors and extend them to meet the front protectors

Thanks Chris......What's the process on that? I had the dealer install the deeper protectors, I just asked him about extending them as you suggested and he said - "how, the coolant tracks are full with the new protectors, there is no room for any more protectors". Thanks.

Cliff the tunnel protectors he's talking about are through SHADE TREE i believe. I believe they're taller than 1 inch, not sure though. I think Chris is saying to run them straight without the taper towards front. I seen one guy cut the taper off and make up the difference with a piece of one towrads the back. I run the 1.175 but im in the trail more than lakes and i've left some scratches in the front from letting off on the big end of the lake. Be careful and ease off on a good run. I've also left some good scrapes in the back from hard landings. The Ohlin's fixed that.

Thanks brother Rod.......I'll check it out next month when we take the Z into the shop to install the NOS kit and the instrument gauge cluster. I'll post some pics once it's done.

what I mean is there is a gap between the front protectors and the rear. so what I do is extend the rear protectors to meet the front one. I used 3 shadetree 1 1/4 high (we need to find some one to make us 1 1/2 tall ones) cut off the taper first then notch the rear protector so it will extend about 2" to meet the front protector , then use the 3rd one to fill in the rest to the flap. Without filling the gap those long studs or 1.060 chisels on a speed track will hit the tunnel in that spot.
