my cousin has a '04 800 summit that when the reverse button is pushed the engine dies. then you restart it then its starts up but as soon as you push the button again it dies. also the red exclamation mark on the dash is on all the time. he said that comes on usually as when you hit the brake. let off the brake then it goes out. so what would the problem be you think??? thanks for your time.

Well, because the engine JUST ABOUT dies when you hit the RER so the engine can go in reverse, it sounds like maybe it's not getting enough fuel to start going in reverse maybe? The sled might be running lean? I don't really know, I just thought of that as a possible problem.

If the idle is set properly time to check compression.

i guess he checked compression and one cylinder showed 130 and the other only 100 psi. so i guess that would be the problem. odometer reads 1300 miles he said. not too good for that mileage. but shit happens.

my was doin this today.... better not have bad comprsion, it has less than 1000 miles on it

my cousins reads 1300 miles

well i guess the low compression in the one pot was due to a fucked piston... it had a hole in the exhaust side and it cracked the pot. the opposite side was good. so it costed him two new pistons, 1 pot, and labour. so im not sure what happened to the sled. only 1300 miles on that engine. bad luck i guess.

check your plug at the ecm, some of those had water getting into the plug. I had an 05 that 2 pins were bad in the ecm and one of those controled the reverse circut. Just a thought!

I had the same sled, same year, same problem. It was never diagnosed or corrected. The dealer said that 'some of them just do that'. The only thing I found to keep it from happening was the rev the throttle a little bit right when I hit the button to get a little more gas in the engine.

yeah never seen it happen but he said no matter what he did it would just die when trying to get the engine to rev the other way... but since he had the top end rebuilt it works fine again. dunno.gif

Get on dootalk. Way more information. The rings from the factory are bad. There is a recall and they put chrome rings in. The RER wont work because the compression is too low. You should start the sled for 30 seconds check the compression and then let in run and get warm then check it agian. You are looking for the compression to be lower on the second check. The little exclimation point on the dash is from a sticky brake switch. The brake switch on the handlebars get moisture in it and then frezes and make that light come on as if the brake or parking brake was engaged.
