Well It started by seeming like the throttle was stuck on when you let off. It took a while before it came down.

I took out the carbs and replaced one boot that had some cracks (I don;lt think they went through). PUt new gaskets on as well (one used one that was still good).

Reeds are perfect, stock reeds, but the boots have the knubs cut off for V-force, so I used gaskets on both sides.

Started it, it would not idle low, wanted to rev. a little high, but it alwasy does that till it warms up a bit. I let it warm up and it around 3000-5000 I could tap it, it would come down, but go back up. It was rtunning funny, seemed sort of like it was loading up, but plugs looked fine. I revved it good a few times on the stand. Let it idle a while, it eventually stalled and wouldn;t start back up. I can;t get it to start at all!

Plugs look fine, has good spark, even tried 2 cdi's.
COmpression is fine
Carbs/boots.reeds, all good.

DOes this sound like crank seals, or I guess possibly a base gasket? Coolant is fine, holding pressure.

I have a bad exhaust side crank seal on my 99Tcat due to high milage. The sled idles high for a minute then idles down to about 1000 RPM's.... you would never know a crank seal is bad by riding it. I have melted my exhuast side piston twice. We pinpointed my problem to the outter crank case seal behind the stater and my sled has shown no signs of your problem. Wish i had more info to offer... good luck!

check your impulse/vacuum line to the fuel pump for a crack (high idle from vacuum leak), could also be the diaphram in the fuel pump split. will it fire if you spray some wd40 down carb throats while cranking or pour some mixed gas down the plug holes?

Well it looks like I have two problems. The no start is the stator. THe high idle I am not sure yet, becasue I can;t start it. Yesterday I switched the CDI, that is when it starting running rough. I switched back to the old one, and realized that the ground wire hjad broken off of the new CDI. I think that is why it was running bad. Today I checked out the spark a little better, and it wasn;t good. No spark on #1. I tested the stator and one of the coils was open. I had 27.8 Ohms and the other one would register for a sec (too high), then just go open.

Could the ground wire coming loose have blown the stator?
