Hey everyone
I just broke in my new sled this weekend. Ive always had Polaris so Im familiar with alot of their noises....ie:brake whine etc.
Anyways I have a very annoying and loud rattle/grinding noise when im cruising, or when I punch it.
Is this the chaincase noise I have heard about.
It sounds very mechanical but not consistant. The motor pulls hard and its not any bearings or anything.
Anyone familiar with this?

XCSLED68- My 02' XC800 chaincase started to make some noise around the 500 mile mark. My sled does have reverse, I don't know if yours does or not. Any way I took off the chaincase cover to get a look at everything and I found that my chain was breaking and gouging up my inner case. About 6-8 links in the center of the chain started breaking away from the pin on one side. This caused the other side to stick out like a Knife from centrifigul force. Needless to say I whipped that puppy off and brought to my dealer and said "WTF". He's a good guy, so he slapped one on the counter and said "Get outta here". Do yourself a favor, check your sled out. Nothing like breakin' down on a cold night miles from nowhere.
Good Luck

thx for the reply.....I dont have the sled here as its up at my cottage. I will yank the cover off and take a look this weekend.
Thats exactly what it could be as I can hear the rattle coming from the right side and it sound like its coming from the chaincase. A sloppy chain or the chain scraping against the chaincase cover is exactly what the noise its making sounds like.
I didnt check the tension as i assumed the dealer set it up properly as it brand new but I guess I shouldnt be relying on any dealers as theyre all whining their not making any money off of sled sales and I dont think they are all that carefull doing the PDI.
