Hey guys, im a 16 year odl kid and Ive been snowmobiling since I was about 10. Throughtout that ive been riding my dads old toys, 2000 45th anaversary, and 2002 edge xc. I come from a family thats well off, but my parents aren't buying em a new sled. Ive been checkign out pro xr's and its w/o a doubt my favorite sled. I saw some cheap ones on ebay and stuff, but i just ha da few questions. I see people say they top out at about 80mph, and I was wondering how hard an engine swap would be? My friend down teh road has a lift, and is very smart with motors so we could get a job done, but i am just curious.

Also, please dont ge teh wrong impression that since im 16 that 80 mph is enough to suit me. I ride in Pawtuckaway state park and ride the main trail at highs of 75mph, and I corner just as well as my dad and uncle who have riden all their lives. I just like to have fun ya know? grinning-smiley-023.gif Thanks for your input.

In my opinion the XR 440 isnt a good choice for a trail sled . The 600 prox or prox2 is your best choice with slightly more power but it will run for 7000 ~10000 miles with very little issues. the 440 is not up to running those distances ever. burndowns , water pump drive gears, crank bearings are all issues with the little screamers. the 2003 ~2004 600 and 700 prox sleds are the best years to buy.

Well my uncle has about 12 sleds, and if i bought the sled i would want to yank out the engine and throw in say a 1998 polaris indy engine. The whole ride hieght issue and such aren't problems. What im was mainly concerned about was if the motor swap was difficult. Also if there is possibly any problems with the suspension and track since the sled is meant for racing, and would be riden on mostly trail riding (high speeds, but trail riding none the less) and teh occasional deep powder.

2001 and newer 600 is almost a drop in if you buy a used pipe and get a cdi for the 600.

My Prox has 18" long front shock , the same as a XR runs its slightly top heavy in corner. If you put a good amount of body english and hang off the side some its fine at high speed or slow speed. I do notice its high center of gravity more so with the longer shock , its hard to be lazy and just sit in the center of the seat and keep both skis on the ground.

Oh leaning is no problem. I ride that xc edge like im in the friggen sno cross. I take some turns at full speed with my ass almost past the body of the sled. I actually recently misjudged an S type turn and went straight into a tree yelrotflmao.gif . No damage what so ever though, i avoided it nicely, but thanksfully some othe rriders helped me out.

How hard would it be to find a 2001+ engine? Ideally i would want a 600, its what i ride now and its perfect for me, and with a lighter sled it would be a beast. I'm not the most intelligent about motors, thats why my friend will help me dro pit in, btu what is a cdi?
