Last minute prep - just thinking about how much oil to carry with me. I run Amsoil Intercepter and I wonder if I'm going to be able to find it on the trail in these areas. I'm not too concerned about running something else. Just curious to see if anyone has it and where.

If you are in a jam, I believe you can buy Interceptor at Canadian tire stores- Some gas bars carry Interceptor, but get ready to pay about 12$ Cad a quart....

I couldn't find it anywhere up there last year, I would bring with you as much as you can.

$12 canadian a quart is pretty cheap actually I would bet more like $20 if you can find it. I don't recall seeing anywhere in the BSL area. Either bring a lot with you or switch out oils for the trip to something easy to find like BRP oil or petro canada. I know a couple of people who run regular doo mineral even in high HP sleds because you can find mineral anywhere. I ran some Petro Canada stuff through my spare sled last year because I was only bringing/buying enough Doo semi for my sled and it's not too bad.

Carry your Interceptor or be prepared to burn Amsoil HP. It can be purchased at most any Canadian Tire store. I have never seen Interceptor anywhere but at Baie Comeau.

I thought Castrol Super Snow was available most places in Quebec?
I'm tired of lugging gallons of Doo oil on my sled also on 1500-2000 mile trips, I'm seriosly considering switching to whats available on the trail.

We seem to launch a Skidoo engine every trip, and ALL have been running either Doo Synthetic or Blend and the last one was using Amsoil, I guess its not all that special after all, only overpriced and hard to find when you need it.
Its usually a lean condition (defective carb/SDI boots, crank seal, clogged jets, etc) that you don't catch in time, not the brand of oil.

Its not about the money (even though Castrol Super Snow was a realistic $5-$6/liter instead of $10-15 for Doo), its availability. Even my local dealer is sold out of Doo oils since the recent snows.

Well guys, the new 2 1/2 gallon gas can on the rear rack just became an oil tank. Got just over 2 gallons in there plus a quart in the caddy under the hood. I never really thought about how much it's going to cost to buy oil on the trail, just about availability. Doing the math was not pretty since I'll need about 8 quarts along the way. Even at $15US per quart, that's $120!!! I doubt I'll need any extra fuel anyway. (Famous last words, I know).

I thought I'd never need the extra fuel either, been carrying the jerry for the past 4 years. Never needed it til 2 weeks ago, was riding down from Saguenay to QC, ran out 6 miles before the next gas station. Glad I had it that day. You should be all set in the Gaspe, I've run that loop a couple times, never had trouble getting gas or oil (doo mineral oil anyhow). Should be real nice up there this week with this last snow.

One of the nicest things about 4 cycle is not having to figure out where to carry oil for a 2000 mile trip and buying the stuff on the trail if you run out. Had two guys with me last week that had a minor flood under the seat and rear storage from quart bottles leaking. I carry my oil with me, 4 quarts in the crankcase. I am not trying to be a smart ass, just don't miss doing that.

I agree with you 100%. My last trip was 2400 miles and I had to lug a case of Interceptor on the sled starting the trip. That is 36lbs extra wieght. I'll be it won't be an issue on my next sled.

agree on the 4 stroke thinking I might be on an attak for touring and ride my renegade locally where I want the lighter weight and offtrail capability.

All I can say is Amen!!! I have a 2002 XC SP 700 and have run nothing but "Penzoil Semi-synthetic Marine" at 11 bucks a gallon from Wal-Mart. I now have 8100 miles and have yet to have a problem.
Without a doubt there is some serious BS surrounding Snowmobile oil. rockernana.gif
