Gang,
Just picked up an 1991 Indy 650 for $100.00 Good deal but it does not run. I need carbs for it. It does not have a spark at the moment.
Questions;
Ignition
How can I check the ignition system? Is there procedures to inspect the ignition system to? I believe it maybe a bad safety circuit in the throttle holder. The previous owner tried to free up the stuck carbs with a screw driver and made a mess of the throttle trying to get the throttle cable off of the thumb lever.
Compression
What's the compression value for this motor? Can you check compression with the carbs removed?
Performance
How many hp is it? What is the top end speed?
Thanks in advance......

disconnect the black/white (bullet connector) wire located by the
main engine harness plug by the recoil.
if you now have spark, the problewm is located with the electrical parts on the chassis.
if you still don't have spark, the problem is located with the electrical parts on the motor.
Ignition works...

if u take and put the compression gauge on the cylinder and hole the throtalk wide open and pull it three times that would be ur compression but u shouldnt have to take the carbs out but take them out and look at the inside of the cylinders nad u can check that....if theres scratches its going to be time for a rebuild soon

I have a flywheel and external coils for that sled if you need them, stator has been sold, I also have 2 -38 MM carbs, but they would need to be jetted for the 650.

Thanks everyone. I picked up a set of carbs off of ebay. Disconnected the black with a white stripe and got spark. Pistons all look extremely clean although the PTO cylinder head is orange color not red. I inspected and found that the oil line was rotted. Probably running on low oil. Can't wait to get this puppy running

looks like its all there, good deal at $100.
if your interested in an extra10 rear skid and/ or a set of four OHLINs gas shocks for it,let me know .
the parts are just down rt 140 a few miles from you.
the ohlins dont fit the skid. but they will fit your current suspension.
other indy parts also.(most of my 94 xlt)
