My 94 XLT 580cc will only rev up to 7500 rpm and tops out at about 75 mph. About a week ago I had to tear the thing down to replace the track. I installed a 121"x15" camoplast predator with 1" lugs clipped every third, replacing the .75" lug fully clipped track. I also replaced the driveshaft bearings and installed a 20 tooth top gear instead of the 21 tooth stock gear, relaced the drivebelt and adjusted it accordingly. I imagined this would reduce my previous top speed slighty but not by thirty miles per hour. I tore the old seat/tank combo out and installed an XCR gas and oil tank, and also installed a 4.5" riser block which affected the position of the carb vent lines. Don't know if any of this is relevent to the speed and rpm decrease but it helps to know the facts.

I can see you losing 2-3 from the height up grade on the track ( 3/4 to 1.00) Is the track tensioned properly? Let it break in a little and reajust. Just my 2 cents, Rick

What belt # did you put on it? Is the track too tight? Does the driveline spin freely?

I installed polaris belt #3211045 and also tried both the old ones that are still within specs- dayco topmax 1105. Rode the sled over 150 miles this week with no abnormal noises or signs of wear. Track spins freely (rolls right off 4 place trailer) track tension is slightly less than recomended. How far should the belt ride up on the primary clutch? I will have to check that out later. Does the cam adjuster on the secondary clutch effect its wide open positon or just the initial spread? I was also told it would be a good idea to move the vent lines to the air box and change the main jets. What jets should I use if I currently have 200s.

Look for a pinched vent line or "check valves" installed the wrong way. if you plan on venting to air box, see Previous post Start at 230 MJ and adjust from there...

Problem solved! Loosened the track to almost 2" of slack with no weight, speed is back up to 100mph with no ratcheting. Do tracks clipped every third window drag that much more than a fully clipped one?

As long as the track does not ratchet in deep snow or off the line, run it as loose as you can on that sled.
