Get some C L R, that stuff for taking lime and rust out of water kettles and the bathtub. Pour a bottle of that in and drop a half pound of galvanized roofing nails in there. Put the cap on, strap the tank on the back of a 4 wheeler, or toss it in the back of your pickup and drive around for about 2 or 3 weeks. I cannot explain why it works, but the inside of the tank will be nice and clean, the nails will be junk and the fluid will be dirty. Didnt believe it when I heard it, but it worked on a lawn mower gas tank.

Just make sure you have ALL the gas out of there, use dish wash detergent and water to get the gas out best you can, and then dump in the CLR. Shake it up, let it settle, then put on the lid. Good luck!
