ok well i had a 03 pro x 600 but i never really got to ride it much last year cause i connected with a tree after like 60 miles. so i got a 04 F6 EFI and its just not cutting it so im thinking about going the pro x route again but what im hearing about the 800 is scaring me. no power, needs a lot of mods to make it go, etc. so i am not sure what i want to do and i would like some suggestions from you guys, since you all own pro x's you would know, does the 800 have power? i know they arent for top speed i just want something that will stand up to jumping and ditchbanging and twisty trails and be insane fast up to like 80-90. the F6 just doesnt have the suspension (mabye cause its not a sno pro?) for it and the power isnt the greatest either. how much would i have to spend to get this thing to really haul? i've probably got 1000-1500 to put into "go fast goodies" so i was wondering if that is even enough? and which is better the pro x or x2? fill me in with any info please and thanks.

it sounds like you are a aggresive rider so i would get a x2 600 or 700 dont get the 800.

get the 04 proxr 800 le sled, same as 03 race chassis with 800 motor, oil injection, 1.25 lug, and different graphics, has the walker evans racing shocks all-around, shorty seat, wish i had one but i went the proxr 440 lc route. good luck with the purchase

I agree, thousands of trouble free miles, holds up to abuse.

I got my 04 800 pro x at the start of the season, before that it was an 04 550 pro x which i got when i was 13. Im 17 now and weigh 150 lbs with an athletic build. I dont know what others have sled but my 800 hauls. ive geared it to 24/41, jet to 430 mains, 64 g weights, green/black (or vice versa) primary spring, ss VES. Last weekend in low snow i hit 108 MPH on speedo before DET light started to flash (bad gas im thinking it was only -10 C ). From 40 MPH on this thing really shines, but is great all around. Only sleds ive raced are my dads 03 700 touring and moms 05 600 touring. It runs away from both and i play with 700 at pretty much any speed. Ive noticed the biggest difference is how snappy it is, very responsive. Its a great sled with a great suspension the only problem for me is the weight issue. When the trails get real tight its not as much fun, since its more work to muscle around corners. I could drive the 550 twice as hard through the twisties but part of it could be that im still playing with different suspension set ups.

400-500 and youve got a great performer the only thing about big bore is you have to work harder.

As for the X2's and XR's the only thing ive heard bad is that the walker evans need some work

I think the 800 is a great motor if tuned right. There is a lot of good info on here to get a 800 running great, but I think the 700 would be better. The 04 prox's I think were the best ones(700-800),but all of them are great. The standard pro x is a good aggresive rider sled, the pro x2 is a step up for more beatings, and the xr800 is an almost full blown race sled.I have an xr800 and after some minor tweaking it is the best sled out there for acc and hard ass riding,if you can handle this monster.I think they are set up all wrong from the factory but after around 300-500 bucks and correct set ups they rock, very rare sled though. You would be happy with just about any pro x.Just make sure to get a good one cause they usually are beat.
Iowa pro xr 800
I have 2004 Pro Xr 8 and love it. Have blown away 05 mxz8,03 04 f7,99moc z . Havent been beat yet.
And with Pro xr the faster you hit the bumps the smother the ride.

the 600 and 700 motors are ROCK solid , allmost indistructable (if treated correctly with fuel and off season maint.) the 800 has very few issues , exhaust valves must be updated cranks on very few have failed. All models need clutching work , not one of them are good out of the box. Jetting it rich on every prox ever built. and they all need PTO and Mag side extra motor mount , If your willing to deal with these issue ASAP it a great ditch banger sled. All the hype on the prox not having great top end speed isnt as bad as its made out to be they will run over 105 mph in normal condtions once the clutching is fixed.

i have a '04 600 pro-x with the legend performance head kit. it is an awsome ditch banger and twisty trail sled. the 7's and 8's are a little heavier up front ...but if you don't ride them back to back you will never notice the difference.

with the edition of a set of powder pros, 50th aniversary front shock springs, slp big mouth airbox mod and the shocks freshened up...it is a great sled with no problems. you should be quite happy with it if you like to run aggressive. ...a pro-x has to be run hard to shine.

Nothing wrong with the 800 motor, the power is there, they just need some work. First thing is to check the motor mounts and make sure they're good. Then get the PTO side torque arm and mag side push arm. Good clutch setup, 136" kit if you want, single pipe/can, SLP airhorn kit, 2 flowrites, get it jetted correctly. They're good on gas once you get then jetted correctly. I get better MPG than both of my buddy's 2002 Mountain Cat 800 EFI. Not to mention my sled is faster. 2003 and 2004 Pro-X have the same valving I believe, but the 2003 has stiffer shocks, thus a stiffer ride, better than an 2004 Pro-X 800 for hard, big bump riding. 2004 Pro-X2 and 2004 Pro-XR are valved even firmer, and meant for an even more agressive ride. Some have had problems with the Walker Evans shocks, but it sounds like if you get them rebuilt by someone that knows what they're doing, they're great.

thanks alot everyone, i will keep searching for pro x's but right now i found an 03 pro x 800 with 1211 miles and its studded for $4795 but i bet i could get it for 4300-4500. all i know about it so far. its at rochester sport center and from what i have heard is that is a great, great place to do business. so im thinking should i jump on this deal or wait for an X2? i would love to find an XR but i know they are kinda rare. there was one for sale at one of the HK Powersports last season but i didnt have the money then.

an decent 03 should be able to be had for 4000 or less unfortunately... the 800 is a good motor, 700 is the best combo of torque, hp, and reliability...
snosgr8
I think that price is a little steep. I picked up my '03 600 pro-x this past fall for $3200. Granted it was a 600, but I still think that price is high. Also the XR's are rare and rare equals more money. I love my pro-x, great sled and so far very reliable. Good luck.

sounds like the 03 800 prox you are talking abouts sounds good, i wouldn´t say you should wait for a xr800, , it depends on if you want to mod the sled alot, if you are in that mindset i would go with a standard prox and go from there, if not, i would wait for an xr800, they are supersweet when dialed in, absolutly love mine, she is a keeper..

I saw a nice xr800 in PA or NY go for 4500...their hard to find for under 5000...

I have an '02 700 Legend motor with the Dominator stuff and some "extras". Flat out hauls balls. I wish I could get Legend to make me a 600 Dominator kit...

i have a 04 700 x2 and love it wen it is not broken. the suspension is the highlight of the sled, that and the motor. i put VForce 3 reeds, mbrp trail can, shaved the heads 30 thou, clutched it, and had it re-geared, and studded.i did an airbox mod that is easy to do and gained power all the way thru. it ran 115 mpg in a thousand feet at the local drag track. one of the best mods that is cheap is higher bars. i put pro taper bars on with a 3 inch rise. in total i hav 8 inches of rise from the steering stem. it is wicked for carving and jumping. kinda cold for long runs but its worth it. only problems i hav had are motor mounts breaking and it blew up once wen a stud hit the heat exchanger, drained the cooland and temp light did not come on. i beat the shit out of it and it seems to take it pretty well. shocks will need rebuilt on theses sleds like twice a year if u ride hard tho or they go weak. the seat is really nice too. maybe a little bit hard but its nice to hav it short so ya hav an excuse not to bring the woman. go for an x2 or xr, its worth every penny.
cheezusXR8
I love my sled and probably will never sell it.

Pro-x's are good sleds they just have to have a few additional mods.

Watch your motor mounts, jet it right, and clutch it.

Did you ever sell that engine Locknut? Or are you still looking to get rid of it?
