I'm looking for some feedback on the Holz spindles. If you've used them tell me what you think and what your set up is, ski's, carbides, studs, etc...

Excellent for backcountry. Wouldn't recommend them for trail. They'll create too much ski lift.

Action has it pegged it, I love the ease of turn but the ski lift is more

why?

why?

Yeah, why?

You all got me. I'm no engineer. I work with criminals all day. ;-) Maybe it's got something to do with extending the wheelbase? More leverage on the a-arm? I figure higher rate springs might help. Maybe a straight rate. The ski lift is very unnerving.
XCBobT
ok thanx.
what town are you the mayor of?

Thanks AFJ....I appreciate the input.

I had them on my 06 RMK and on my Dragon RMK. The decrease in steering effort far outweighs the ski lift nuisance. Ever ride an F7 fast, they didn't start cornering until the inside ski came up. :-) The 06 had SLT's with 6" carbides and seemed to do big sweepers at high speeds easily. The Dragon, well, with Walkers it can't corner to save its life so that's not a good comparo. In the trees, like AFJ said, is where they shine.

It's just a matter of adjusting how you take turns a little......no big deal. Thanks!!!

I have them on mine, I love them, I run Simmons with 6" Studboy Shapers on both sides. Maybe a bit of extra ski lift, I hadn't really noticed, I'll pay more attention this weekend! Certainly not enough to outweigh the benefits.

You can literally see the improved geometry on these puppies, and together they weigh about as much as one of the original spindles!

If you have any pictures bigger then you avatar I'd like to see them installed.

Thanks for the info, do you ride trails mostly??

Those certainly don't look like they would fit a 4-stroker yammi? frech11.gif

I mostly ride trails, but in District 9 this year, riding trails has meant riding powder half the time! I haven't had problems in any conditions with them.

Here's the full-size pic from my avatar, best I have showing the spindles:

how do they improve geometry over stock spindles?

Thanks,
JP

They put the ski bolt in-line with the natural line created by the attachment points of the A-arms, instead of pushed back the way the Polaris spindles have them. Hold a ruler up to your stock spindles, so it lines up with the A-arm attachment points, you'll see what I mean. Creates better leverage on the skis, reducing the steering effort. Also seems to improve overall handling, but I don't understand how the geometry works for the improved handling.

Polaris' solution to the problem was to put the bolt hole in a new place on the skis on the 07's...probably because they had lots of spindles left over from 06! From the feedback here on HCS, sounds like it more or less works, but it won't work if you swap out your stock skis, and it's kind of a lame solution.

I saw very little change in steering effort by going to the HRP spindles. After installing SLT skis the effort dropped dramatically.
