First off, I would like to thank the many people on here who test and re-test setups. I have done this many times with other sleds, but with this one I had the luxury of looking up many of the setups here. For that, THANKS. So right now I have 410 mains with otherwise stock jetting, stock primary spring with matched 62 gram weights (they were 62.1,62.4,62.7 to start) Secondary I have a 420719 helix on the 66-44-42 setting with stock secondary spring. With this setup I pull away slowly from a stock clutched, 400 main, 45 pilot 600 ho. The question is: Should I change the jetting to 400 mains, 60 pilots, with 1.0 air jet or let it be? Opinions?
Thanks
Jason

how do the plugs and pistons look? are you on the trail or lake?
Racer254
This was on the trail and the plugs look rich. But, I am more concerned with the midrange lean condition that everyone seems to have.
TDI-HAM
I'm running 400s, 60 pilots and .09 Pilots. No greasy idling, no low down midrange stumble no WFO det light flashing. I gave the sled a good beating last weekend. 17 miles on and off the bar... mostly on. No problems. Could probably go to 390s, but will keep the 400 for another week or so. Only other change was balanced 62g weights.
pockets
I would do the 60 pilots, .9 air jets, 400 mains and gut the airbox. Also remove the horn in the top of the box, and glue the foam on. Needle stock clip, fuel screw around 1.25 turns. Then try an erlandson maroon with 10-64.

Guys,
This is what I got in the jet drawer. 60 pilots, 1.0 paj, 400 mains. Will it make a whole lot of difference with the 1.0 rather than the .9 paj?

Seems to me jumping the pilots and pilot air jets is just defeating one another.

I am happy with my factory 50 pilots but want to jump my paj's to .7 and no
higher. Not missing my "hot pipe idle hanging" from my 01 XC 600 that had
.9 paj's in it at all.
Racer254
Not sure about that anyone else?

I cant believe some of you guys are stepping up the pilots from 50 to 60 when most are suggesting 45's. Mine has the 50's and the idle mixture is very rich. I plan the .9 paj's to fix that(most effective @ 1/8 throttle on my little chart). As for the lean spot which these 6's do have near the 1/4 throttle goes away with needle clip lowered to #3. These observations are with a stock A/b, and about 1~2.5k' elevation, 390 mains. The timing bump from 26 to 28 did not make much difference as far as jetting requirements go, even with 87 octane I have yet to see my det light come on. I will also say my little 6hundy runs with good running xc7's. Mine has the power robbing m-10 susp. I get about 11~12 mpg very similar to the 700's.

From what I understand the larger air jet is less prone to blockage, especially from snow dust. I have not done the change, but it comes from a very reputable source.

Seems totally logical Pockets. Just don't want the same hot idle characteristics that my 01 XC 6
had.

I have tried the 45 pilots, 50 pilots, 55 pilots, 60 pilots with the .6 and .9 paj. I have had my gutted air box on and off the sled so many times now I could do it blindfolded. In the end I ended up with 400 mains with the stock pilot and paj. The answer is in fine tuning the fuel screws like Brock here has suggested many many times. you will find a point where you have an acceptable idle mixture and no bog when whacking the throttle wide open, also make sure your idle is 1800 hot.
DRAGON1
I have 45 pilot 1 1/8 turn fuel screw, 400mj on pto 390 on mag 28 degree timing, .011 off of head
v force, and a gutted air box ran okay. When i got the pipe done at bikemen it all came together.
11 to 13 miles per gallon riding hard and very quick for a 600 alot of people think they sould beat 800s or more but they do not. i am very happy.

The 0.9 paj cleaned up a lot of the stumble off the line with my sled, running 45's. Still has a little stumble but it was rally bad with the stock paj. I'm amazed at how much snow dust get's in the air box and it seems to collect around the entrance to the carbs blocking those paj's half the time.

I dont know what the deal is but I went to put .9paj's in it and thats what was in there! I thought these were coming through with .6 paj's? Oh well. I'm still rich when warmed up with stock pilots #50 and f/s out 1/2 turn. I hate pulling that a/b. I'm dropping #45's in it and setting the screw to 1 out and hope its good. I think poo was setting these with a fat idle to help the reverse system engage better without having to re-start 10 times. lsvader.gif

As long as mine idles between 1800 and 2000 my reverse works every time
