I'm thinking of swapping the engine from a 92 RXL650 into my 96XCR600 .If I swap fuel system and electrical system and exhaust,does any one know if this will be a direct bolt in? The xcr600 has SLP pipes,clutch kit and dial a jets.I'm getting tired of this tempermental starting beast and want to go to efi.Feel free to make an offer on the 600,it runs great ,just tricky starting

you are looking at a PITA swap. the XCR bulkhead is different from the RXL. the engine sits lower in the XCR and is narrower than the RXL. what exactly is your problem with the XCR starting?? i've got quite a bit of experience with the XCRs of that era and might be able to help you get it right and save you some headache.

the sled starts fine when cold,but when we're trail riding and stop for lunch.say about 1/2 hr.it wont start without choking and then floods very easily.If I put in fresh plugs I can get it to start firing and eventualy start.

Wasn't leaking inlet needles/seats common on those xlt's / xcrs ?

sounds like you have leaking float needle and seat. a simple check is to remove the crankcase drain plugs after having it sit, just as your described problem. if you get any fluid gas out, you have leaking needle and seat or way high float level. i run my floats down about 1/8" - 5/32" from having the float arms parallel to the carb body. also what jetting, elevation and temps do you normally ride in??

I'm in Minnesota ,temps from -30 to+30 .usally around 10 degrees.When I put the SLP triple pipes on they said go up 2 jet sizes to start,but I put in dial-a-jets in and they recommended going down 2 sizes,so I left the stock jets in and the dial-a-jets are set about mid range.My plug chops are are a very nice light brown .I'm also running SLP 's recommended clutch set up.

I'll try new needles and seats and reset the floats. Thanks for the advice

you may want to get Q-4 nozzle jets while you're at it. i found mine ran lean in the mid-range with the stock Q-2 nozzle jets. i actually burnt down a couple top ends from it. if you're still running the stock airbox, the Q-4's are a nice to have. if you have the SLP high flow airbox, they are a must have. i'm not a big fan of dial-a-jets, they are pretty inconsistent. a tempaflow is a better set-up. i run mine with 330 mains, Q-4 nozzle jets, stock needles in the middle, 35 pilots jets and lowered float level. it works well for 0* to +40*F and 0 to 6000 ft. it does get a little boggy at high elevation and temps, but not worth re-jetting. also SLP clutching is way off the mark. i run a straight 36* helix and stock polaris red spring in the secondary and 10Mred weights with Polaris red primary spring for spirited ditch banging. a mellower trail set-up would be a straight 34* helix with red secondary spring, 10Mblue weights and a blue primary spring. i don't like the off idle bog normally associated with piston port motors, so i clutch up to eliminate it. the first set-up i listed does that, the second is more in line with stock shiftpoints except the needed extra RPM to compensate for the pipe's new power curve. also, check your motor mounts, mine were wasted 300 miles after piping it.
