There is no question a twin pipe will make more power but you should have a low compresion head if your riding at less then 3000' and if noise is a issue stay with a single.
I run a slp single , I would say it makes 5~8 hp more then stock once its jetted right. Forget slp jetting chart , 430 main jet is the biggest jet you need for a 700 that runs stock ports no mater what mods.

I run SLP twin pipes and cheater heads(0-3000 feet) on my 04 PRO XR 800, definite increase in power. It tends to be alot more sensative to temprature changes so I installed Holtzman engineering ATAACC with 470 main jets and have'nt had to rejet since. The SLP twin pipes are also extremely quiet, almost stock sounding. I also agree with XC-MARK the SLP jetting specs are way off, more of a starting point than anything.

^ I wouldnt say they are stock sounding at all. No twin pipes will come close to stock levels. Not even a single pipe. I raced a guy on an XC with twins last weekend. After I lost by a sled length I asked him what he was running as it sounded no where near stock. He said he was running SLP twins. Those suckers were loud. Even my SLP single is noticeably louder than stock.

Just had to (sadly) take my twins off my baby cause they were just to loud for the lovely decible level in my area. Put on a SLP single and although a little less power, much much quieter!! Have the twins for sale if anybody is interested! Sorry for the plug!

i would go the single pipe route, most single pipes make more grunt down low then twins, this is where you need it the most(according to me), if lake racing or any other racing application is in your mind i would go with twin pipes, itīs not a question if one is better then the other, they are just good at diffrent things, my cousin has slp twins and they sure produce performance, and they are not that loud, but i can take him with my single in 50% of the places we ride in and his sled needs constant jettting and adjustment to shine.. just my 2c

I have Cpi twins on my 02 800 rmk and the single on my 02 700 rmk. They both work great. I do prefer the single for sound though if putting on a lotta miles. But on the 7 there is only a couple hp diff so go with the single and a lot more usable torque and hp.

A GOOD set of twins will not need constant tinkering. That being said I don't consider SLP twins a good set of pipes. They are ok but their stuff is too tight for flatland applications. I have ran Ruglands on a few of my XC6s and they performed flawlessly. And we all know how good the stock pipe is on the 6s. Same bottom end with better mid-range/top-end and a much snappier throttle response. It was like riding a dirt bike in the ditches!

But like others have said NO twins will sound like stock. I just can't take the noise anymore on the long trips. If you don't mind the noise, go with twins. I'd take a look at Dynoport myself.

DO NOT START WITH 430 MAINS WITH TWIN PIPES!!!!!!!!!
I'm in the midst of setting up a set of SLP Twin pipes on my '03 xc 700. I am running SLP air horn, ported carb boots, stock reed cages w/ Boyesen power reeds. I started with 470s, I am now at 470 mag/ 450 PTO with needles in #4(good to -20 f). #3 was giving me white plugs. The air in my area is generally very good and I would be lucky to get 1000' before I melted down with 430s. I would love to see a dyno data sheet that showed the SLP single making 5-8 hp more than the stock pipe with the only difference being the pipe at say .65-.61 BSFC.

Hey ProX, they are CPI's. I am indy28's brother. They work really, really well but were just too loud to use them in WI. I would highly recommend these pipes to anybody. He is looking to get $275 plus shipping for these beasty pipes. They are in great shape. If you would like some pics of them, let us know! Oh yeah, we are from northern WI.
