1. Raced two of my buddies on their 03 F7 Sno Pros...when they hooked up I consistantly pulled right away up to the mid range when I slowly pulled away...and then it all evened out/I may have pulled a hair on the top end. When they didn't hook up well and I did (no studs for them & 168 for me)I won my 10 sled lengths some times...when we both went from say 40 mph even, I would only jump out by like 2 sled lenghts and very slowly pull away...very slowly. One F7 was bone stock and one had a new clutch kit put it. I think if both had studs like mine it would be a different story. All in all, I was very happy with what the 900 did against these two sleds as I know both of them to be very strong F7s.
2. Raced an 04 REV 800 HO and an 01 Mach Z 800...I killed both out of the hole and then at about 80 the Mach Z would blow by me like was towing an ICE HOUSE behind me...the REV never caught me...ever. Knowing how well the REVs hook up and how solid they are on the Dyno, I was psyched with these results. The Mach Z had over 200 studs, a triple pipe kit, reeds, jetting and a clutch kit. If it was a race to 1000' I may have had him, but we were running 3/8 to 1/2 mile runs...The REV guy was pissed...he actually set two more races up...same results. The one time the REV surprised me was on a return trip over the ruff stuff...we both hammered it at like 60 and he started to catch me b/f I started to pull him...which I guess makes sense b/c of the weight difference.
3. Raced, on a different lake with rough unpacked snow, and got my butt handed to me 3 times in a row by an 03 F7 standard green with a standard track...he was a real nice guy and claimed his sled was bone stock except for 96 1.375 studs. This sled pulled me out of the hole by 2-4 sleds every time and stayed there for the whole race...up to 1/2 mile at least. Hey, those 03's, when running dead nuts, are world beaters so I wasn't upset...disapointed a little b/c my 03 never ran like that (Too busy blowing up) but what can you do right. He had two buddies with him, an F5 and an SRX...the SRX got it's butt handed to it by even the F5 and that damn F5 stayed with me for a while too b/f I would rip away from him, but I couldn't touch that F7.
So, in conclusion, I think removing my airbox helped a bit on the top end but I noticed my ZR is way over revving to 7800...even at 3/4 throttle it's pulling 7600...I had to back down to 1/2 throttle to get 7200-7300 rpms...so I guess I need those 85 gram primary weights. And I am going to get the V-Force reeds too. If my sled had the top end of the 03s I would have stayed with that mach Z and I would have killed the REV rather than beat him by 2-3 sled lenghts...and he wouldn't be able to gain at all on me. As for that F7...who knows...stock or not, that thing was possessed and I would be honored to run that sweet.

Bosssho,
Nice post. :div20:
Other than gutting the airbox, have you done any of the other mods that Indytriple suggested in your "Begging for Mods" thread? I haven't had a chance because of the lack of snow around here.
Keep us informed on the use of Dalton's 85 gram weights and the V-Force reeds.
Thanks,
Bob
Need a new snow dance, this one is not working. :fluffy:
Maybe this one will work.

Jesus, I thought you guys got a ton of snow last week...that stinks if you are still waiting...Road Trip!!!
I have not even had a second to :drunk: lately...b/t the subzero temps and work, I haven't even removed the damn coupler blocks yet...I just uninstalled, reinstalled and added a second Gad Shock to my trailer...and finally the effing thing works the right way now!

That was fun by myself! :banghead:
I also changed my carbides on teh F7 and ZR 900...I will have the coupler blocks out for the next time I ride it at a lake 2 weeks from now and I will get on the phone tomorrow I hope to order the V-Force Reeds and the clutch Weights too. Other than that...I have no clue how to tighten the secondary spring and or remove the shim so I am hoping my dealer will do it for me...I did notice my F7's belt is sitting almost above the top of the secondary so it has a more agressive deflection than the ZR...

They really should have included the spanner wrench in the tool kit so the spring can be adjusted. Our dealer up here still has not even recieved one from cat. Its pretty easy to make one but you need a welder to do it. The shims are very simple, problem is you need at least one more, and getting the secondary out of the sled is the most difficult part. Don't worry, loosing to f7's will soon be a thing of the past with the stuff you plan on doing, I think you will probably still over rev slightly but will gain a butt load of speed. We were only reving 7600 stock and the 85gr. seems to have pulled the motor back down to 7300, but the belt deflication and secondary tension were also adjusted so can't give the weights all the credit so far.
Where in MA are you, were been playing around on the ice up here in So. NH the past couple weekends, we've got a couple zr9's , very fast stock F7 and my ZR 800 which really isn't a player plus alot of others end up showing up. Generally we make a day out of it. You should come up if your not all that far away.

Is this something I could pay you guys to do...since you already made the wrench?Where in MA are you, were been playing around on the ice up here in So. I am only in Chelmsford...two towns south of Nashua, NH...so if you are in Southern NH...you're less than an hr easy...which means I would be happy to come and get my ass kicked with my stock sleds! :frech32:

Today was the first day since mid-December that we had any significant amount of snow. If we can get a couple of more inches before the weekend, we should be alright. If not, a trip to the U.P. of Michigan.
Indytriple thanks for all of the valueable information on the set-up of the '04 ZR900. :div20: Please keep us informed of any new developments.

The new snow dance seems to be working.

Bossho, your only about 45min. from us, I'll get back to you soon but i know that nobody is heading north this weekend so i'm sure where gonna play on the lake. Last weekend we played on Northwood lake if your familier with that, its off of Rt. 4 in Northwood between portsmouth and concord, basically near Bickfords ski-doo dealership if you are familier with that. I'm guessing we will have my bro in laws 04 900, my fathers 03 900 and a 03 F7 which just got a dakota clutch kit. My ZR is recovering from a failed oil injection so is out of commision with a stuck piston but i'll probably go and watch and wrench a little, might bring a phazer i've been working on to just putt around on and play with carbs but there should be a bunch of sleds to play with. We still haven't gotten a rematch with the 03 as of yet but after running it last week against the F7 we figure its gonna be real close, we are somewhat confident that we might get it in the top end as well, which has been the goal. We will have the spanner wrench with us so we could makes some adjustments on your secondary if you so wish, you might want to see if your dealer can hook you up with an extra shim for the secondary as well and we can toss that in too. I'm thinking we probably do it on saturday, the temps are supposed to be around 25+ so it should be a real nice day. I'll talk to everyone and find out.

Sounds great to me...I am calling about the shim right now...hopefully they know what the hell the part number is...Well, forget that, I just called and they had no idea b/c it's a new clutch...I said to look up the ZR or the T660 and see whatever the shims are in there and to get me one of each...
Do you have access to one if I can't dig one up?
I would love to do that and the Secondary Spring Tightening...that would leave me with the 85G Dalton Weights (These are the safe ones correct?) and the V-Force Reeds...which I am ordering today one way or the other.
Feel Free to email me if you need my CP number!

Indy,
This is where my dealer is lost...they are explaining to me how the secondary spring is only compressed by the insides of each casing...the side towards the belly and the side towards the engine. They don't think there is any way in hell to actually adjust the spring independent of adding a shim that would add more spring tension via compression. Please explain in more detail...I emailed you, but I figured this was info too important to pass on the forum knowing too.
The shims are very simple, problem is you need at least one more, and getting the secondary out of the sled is the most difficult part.
I watched them take off the shims...seems pretty straight forward...insane that you have to do all of that just to change the belt too, but at least I have now seen it live. I need to know which size shim you are recommending we add.
Thanks so much...and I look forward to talking to you soon.
