sleds ben popping and bogging. put in new battery and still doing this. chargeon battery is 12.4 when notrunning and drops to 12.0 when running. what should I check and how? The key switch was broke when I bought it and theres wires stuck together hereand there. any suggestion on what to do next? thanks

How many volts are you supposed to have at idle? Any help? Its snowing

you ever check your intake boots for cracks?

Hi TUG, If you have more volts shut off than running it must not be charging, or not charging enough.Maybe the AC/DC voltage rectifier/regulator is bad. m2c.gif i_need_snow.gif TomW

Ill check it. Everything else has checked ot ok so far.Dealer said if stator was bad I'd have 0 volts gfrom itit has some, also the headlightcharges more as you rev it like it should. I tryed a votage regulator but it changed nothing. How many wirs on your + side ofbat?

I just ran across something like this a couple of weeks ago. A friend of mine does some small time general mechanic work (Polaris mostly) any way he had a 93 Wild Cat EFI in the shop with similar symptoms to what you are describing, in addition the lights would also flicker intermittently. We traced the wiring to the junction area between the gas tank and under the air box, ( a bitch to get at) and low and behold one of the wire bundles had come in contact with the jack shaft and had worn the insulation off of the wires causing the problems. These sleds were know for rubbing wires etc in and along the stearing post/air box junction.

Mine has 2 wires on the + side of battery. They are wraped in a red tape. Did you change the little square regulator or the bigger oval shaped one? I don't know who dreamed up the wire routing on these things but whoever it was should be shot!! :frech32: i_need_snow.gif TomW

Yep theres a ton of wires. The ac/dc rectifier is $230 and my friends wildcat is carbed so it doesnt use one(cant try his). didnt see any problems with the wires but there very well could be.I just wish I new what the test is for this model for the charging harness out of the stator.I think the voltage regulator is anly used in the lighting not the efi. Is this what the rectifier is for (efi)?

I have the arctic service manual for my 94 but I think 93 would be the same. I will double check but I think the rectifyer thing is what takes care of the battery. Do you have a red light that comes on on the bottom of the tach shaped like a little battery? Mine does, it comes on when key is turned on and goes out when it is started, my understanding is it is a idiot light for charging the battery, like a alternator light in a car. Mine has a bunch of tiny lights on the bottom of speedo and tach for different things,The charging light, hi beam light, hand warmer light, temp light, low oil light. Did you replace the key switch? I wonder if that is part of the problem. [WE ARE SUPOST TO GET 3-5 INCHES OF SNOW TONIGHT AND TOMORROW, I WILL BELIEVE THAT WHEN I SE IT, EVEN IF WE DO, NOT REALY ENOUGH TO RIDE DECENT ANYWAY SINCE THE GROUND IS BARE] i_need_snow.gif i_need_snow.gif i_need_snow.gif TomW

Yes The light stays illuminated .Does your manual tell you the ohm reading on the charging harness or the voltage. The plug is a 4 prong 1 brown and 3 yellow with red stripes. thanks.

Book says if light stays on charging system is not working. Is there a yellow round thing near the battery? There is a fuse in it. It says to check the fuse and if fuse is ok to take multimeter on DC amp position with the fuse holder pulled apart to put the black lead to the end of the fuse holder connected to battery and red lead to the other end of fuse holder, with motor running it should have2 to 10 amps depending on motor speed. If no amps to put meter on AC volts slightly spread the main 4 prong connector, touch the tester leads to the two yellow/red wires in the connector, if no volts with motor running the lighting coil is bad, if there is volts it says AC/DC rectifier/regulator is bad. It says that when everything is working with motor running should have 13.5 volts at battery terminals. I hope this helps, If you need any more info just ask and I will try and help. TomW
