My dad and I spent the day up the Durham way. We left around 9:15 arrived in Arthur at 10:30, we were on the trail before 11. Tons of snow, some of the drifts were massive. This was my first time up that way. We dropped the sleds at liquidation world in Arthur, and sledded north from there. The trails were Excellent, and there wasn't much traffic. We sledded on:
-B202 all the way to trail 404. This trail was magnificent, great base, very quiet freshly groomed and speedy.
-Took trail 404 to 406, and followed it through Mount Forest, we stopped for a bite to eat at the golf course on pike lake. Really good food, met a friendly guy who suggested the loop up to Ayton was freshly groomed last night. So we moved on.
- We took B111 into Ayton. Trail was WICKED. tons of powder to play in, smooth, only some rough spots in the bush. Great coverage. Minimal traffic as well.
- We carried on B111 all the way to Varney . The signage in this particular area was horrific. We came to an intersection where three trails crossed, and there wasn't a single sign. there were about 12 sledders taking a rest contemplating which way to try first. There were spots where the trail crossed a road, and just disappeared. We got stuck behind a flock of "couches" (two-ups) who were doing 3 mph. Rentals, even the helmets were rentals. They looked back and saw us, and just kept on going. Every time We tried to pass, they would swerve over unintentionally and cut us off. Finally blew they're doors off at a stop sign. We stopped to get gas at Shell on hwy 4 just east f Durham. We saw 4 dead sleds being towed on B202, and 2 write-off's. One guy wrapped her around a tree, and another caught air and flipped it a few times by the looks of the parts scattered everywhere. Its a good thing they had someone standing on top of the hill where we crested or I might of done the same thing. I would say his sled was totaled.
-Jumped on B202 made a wrong turn and took trail 380 instead of 382, made another wrong turn and took 608 instead of 606, but it was fine because we had tons of time. Added another 20 miles to our journey. Trails were just "so-so" on the north east side of Arthur. They were rough in sections, and some bare spots, but other than that it was good running. Gotta love those tight forested sections!
-Pulled into liquidation world at 5:00, home by 6:00.
This was my first time riding that area, and it was magnificent. Its a reasonable distance from home, the trucking to sledding ratio is very low, met some cool guys and most excellent of all my sled ran great. Who can complain? My dad is heading back up to Arthur tomorrow with my bro. I got stuck working...
Like my new 05 indy 500? 850 miles! We picked it up on Thursday from mark's marine in dover. Also, what do you guys think of my custom numbers? we did them ourselves.
