Well, I've just recently started looking at summits. I want an 800 or 1000 151 or longer. I've been looking at 2005-2007's. I don't know much at all about these. What is a good size and year to get. Right now I've got 2 I'm looking at a 2005 1000 162" and a 2007 800R 151". Does anyone have the price for the 2008 yet?

I would stick with the 800 as unless they are dialed in (and only a few are) the 1000 isn't as fun to ride out of the box.

I see you ride the horns. Best all around sled with the lack of info you give is: Summit 800 151. Best years considering year, problems and current year 06. What better answers give better info. $ available, favorite type riding, % of different type riding. If your looking at Doo, go to Dootalk.com for more info.

Wow, You just confused the hell out of me. I'm looking at buying a Summit and had questions about them. Obviously I have enough to spend to get a 800 Summit 151 or 1000 162" and am looking for a sled to ride in the mountains.

but back on topic, my cousin has an 06 1000 151, my cousins friend has an 07 Xrs 800 151, and i have an 06 800x 144
and the 1000 is totaly junk, thing has blown up 2 times already and he just bought it at the begiing of this season and it has had many other small problems, and imo it dont do that awsome its so big and heavy...
the XRS 800 seems to be pretty good the 07's have an awsome track (or this one does atleast) it has plastic suports in the paddles so they dont bend
IMO my 800x 144 is my favorite even tho i havnt riden the other ones, my is so effortless to boondock (i can booondock sitting down) and they seem to have to yank soo hard to get it to boondock. and the 800 has plenty of power, i dont see a need for any more, thing just stands straight up all the time (and its not in the suspension)

and you said you didnt know alot of summits so a 144 is equivlant to a 151 of the other companys because ski-doo has the 16" wide track

the best guide at togwotee rides a 800r with a 159 he swears by it and ive seen him take it places that would boggle your mind!

06 800 was probably the best all around summit yet made. Reliable, good power, rides well, and affordable. The 800r has some awsome power, but it has reliability problems with the crank and the clutching is horrible out of the box. Clutching problems have been worked out for 08 and the crank problems are supposed to have been fixed as well, so that is awlays an option.

Enjoy whatever you choose, cause it will be a blast,

Well, I found one and am picking it up this weekend. It's a 2006 Summit X 159". Has a Big John's 840 kit Dynoport pipe, HPS can, clutched and regeared, and Boss seat, think I covered most of it. Will get some pics when I get it Saturday.

IMO, the Everest 146" with the 800R is the sled for anything short of the Rockies or the Tetons...439 pounds is super super light..

I ride the black hills and the Big horns with a 2006 1000 high mark sdi 151. I feel it is perfect it is fast and has a great hole shot alot of power. the 162 is overkill, slower and not at all necessary and is awful if you ever ride a groomed trail.. I weight 245 and can go anywhere with my sled. Perfect sled for going off the trails or on the trail. 14 inches of snow to 70 inches. it floats in the deep stuff.
