When I come to a stop the thing idles high about 2-3000 RPM. After a few seconds it slowly idles down. I bought it because it was a good deal and its nice to have a spare sled, I put about 1000 miles on it and haven't touched it. ANy ideas where to start?

I know what you mean. My 97ZRT600 started doing that after I put UFOs in. Once I turned down the idle quite abit, then it came down. It always took a little bit of time. Just flick the choke on for a second, it'll drop..

My 800 does the same thing all I do is just give the throttle a little blip and it comes down. They all seem to do it a bit every now and then.

Remember that a reading of 1000 rpm on the sled tach is really 1500 engine rpm.

To lean at idle, adjust the fuel/air screws or bump up the pilot jet.

2001 ZR 800's had a bulletin for the exact same thing and Cat says to turn the fuel screws out a smidge more to richen the mixture. When idling high your lean after a steady or hard run. Blipping the throttle is doing the same thing just depends on how you want to solve it.,,,,,This pertains to rackmount flatslides mikunis. My brothers 800 did this and it fixed it.

I might have a different view although not trying to short others opinions , i think they are perfect when they do that little transition then you know its lean enough at idle as long as it drops to idle in under 10 seconds. then I think you wont have a rich idle to burn out of before it 'll be snappy again. I found mine responded best when idling at 1900-2200 and slowly transitioning to idle like that so id leave it . Happy Wrenchin
