I have never made the ride from the great north woods over to Jackman, has anyone done it? I am wondering how far it is and what the best route would be to take? I am thinking it should be a days ride, would it be best to go thru Pittsburg and past Bosebuck, or is it better to go thru Errol and out that way? Any info would be great, thanks!

Well, I have never made that ride either....google maps says its 125 miles from pitt to jackman via roads. As the crow flies - i'd guess around 100 miles.
That translates into trail riding to be much, much more....This seems like it would be a veeeery aggressive day if you tried to do it in 1 day, even if at all possible. I'd be interested to hear what trails people suggest, too....

I would think if 125mi by car it couldnt be more then double that on trails, probably less. 250 miles is a doable day. Some friends made it from Pittsburg to Caribou in 2 long days of riding(12 hr days). That was with not so great snow conditions too, so I would think it would be better this year. I dont know, im hoping someone has done and and can shed some light?

Pitts to the forks is about 140miles by trail. Add on about 60 more and I would venture to guess you're close.

Thanks Golf, that sounds like it could be done if we leave first thing in the AM and plan on getting there after sundown. Whats the best route to take?

the trip from pittsburg to jackman can be done in one day.

its not a bad ride. left Granite State power at around nine am, arrived in jackman at around four that afternoon. Now what trail did we take not sure but I know that you have to head out of Pittsburg by the Parmachinee Lake I may be wrong. I don't really follow maps that well

im not exactly sure of the routes, but I know if you get the pittsburg trail map and use the ITS trail map from mesnow.com, you can get there easily.

That is my take on the distance also. I did it several years ago solo, from Timberland Lodge, on First Connecticut Lake, straight to Eustis, on to Jackman, had a meal, spun around and drove back. Made it back at 11:00 that night after leaving about 6:00AM, and walked funny for about three days.
Its a very do able ride in one day, and if you want to stay over night check out a place called Sky Lodge, just north of Jackman. Great place to stay, in an old hunting lodge with a landing field, great restaurant, rustic lodging and a motel to boot!

Did it years ago and we had some trouble. We stayed in a camp on 1st conn. and four of us left early in the morning, Pittsburg Rangeley Eustis Jackman and then back same day. Just outside of Jackman friends sled started acting up, come to find out it was a split in the fuel line. We got him into town and while they worked on his sled we went to eat. Get done eating and got on my sled, the suspension collapses, what the .uck. Will never forget this but some french man (broken english) tell me to piss on it, didnt know what he was talking about and thought he was busting my balls. Well got my sled inside for like 10 minutes with heat on it and she popped back up, what a relief. My buddy just needed a new fuel line. We headed back to Pittsburg and got home late that day. Dont remember the mileage but it was a long day. Good luck redf-7

Just finished with a trip like this yesterday. Left Haverhill,NH on Saturday morning and stayed in Gorham NH Saturday night. Left Gorham Sunday morning and headed for the Forks. Cross into Maine from Pittsburg and you are ITS 84. Take ITS 84/89 towards Eustis and get some Gas at Pine market. Continue on ITS 89 towards Jackman. From Errol to Eustis it is around 120 miles and then about 80 to 100 more to Jackman. We spent two days riding in the Jackman and Forks area then headed back to NH on Wed. We made it from The Forks to Lancaster NH on Wed and that was about 200 miles. Leaving Maine on Wed all trails were very good.

that,s a good ride when the trail,s are in decent shape. if you wanted to make it an overnighter, go about 20 or 30 miles further and stay at pisston farms. its a really cool place to stay with good food and better people. then make the moosehead loop and head back to pittsburg. ambitious but dooable. go 4 it and let us know how you make out.

I will be doing it Tuesday. We have always gone to Pittsburg then over to Rangley up through Eustis and on to Jackman.
We are leaving Moultonboro on Monday and will stay in Colebrook or Pittsburg that night. Then on to Jackman. Then around Moosehead Lake and on to Millinocket. Ride around baxter state park and then head back. We will be back Friday and the roundtrip will be somewhere between 1100 and 1300 miles most likely.
The last trip we went from Millinocket to Colebrook in one day coming down under Moosehead Lake and it wasn't bad to do in 1 day.

I did this same ride from granite state a few years back. If you go in and talk to Paul he should be able to tell you the best route, he led the trip a couple years. We called it the annual cat attack.

I had that trip planned a few weeks ago, but canceled right before the big storm. I was going to ride from Errol to Stratton, stay the night, then to Jackman, stay the night and same on way back. I had planned a little different route each way and do some exploreing from the main trails and it was going to be about 600-700 miles round trip.

That would be great advice if Paul was still there, but unfortunately he is driving a truck now, which is a great loss for Granite State Power IMO!

Yeah some friends of mine did that same ride, Millonocket to N.Stratford in one day. Took them 13-14 hrs and they said it was well over 300 miles!!! Thats ambitious, perfect conditions it would be easy but get some bumps out there and it could be really brutal.
