Why would you want to do that jerry? No it should hurt any thing but just remeber there are plastic parts in the reed case and the crank seals may not like it! SO just for those 2 reasons I wouldnt do it! It really easy to pull the carb rack ot of your 02! and I have never found any need to clean them like what your saying! Every Fall I pull the carbs apart and clean them I Have never found any thing wrong but how can you tell if you have a water in the fuel unless you have a melt down!

I would assume that the reason for you to do this is to clean your carbs, but by spraying it into the mouth or throat of the carb isnt going to get you to your objective, all of the things that you would want to clean are inside of your float bowl jets and needle and seat and floats,so as stated before you are MUCH better off pulling them off and removing the bowls. It isnt all that hard and will take you about an hour ,maybe more if its your first time

Usually not. But having a gasket stick and tear isn't unheard of.

I was wondering if you need to clean your carbs every season, or could you go every other season? Also, I have never cleaned carbs before is it dificult? need special tools? Could you give me a few pointers.

you really dont need any speciel tools at all mostly a philups(spelling?)screw driver.
it all depends on what model year you have as too instructions if it is an edge model, this was the easiest model ive had removing the carbs, take off the top off the air box remove the shelf and loosen the hose clamps that hold the carbs to the boot( now this is what I do to save time.and I know that every one does it differantly) but I dont disconnect anything else, except for the fuel line to gain more room to pull the carbs out furtherTURN OFF YOUR GAS!!!!!and then like I said it really depends on what model you have,if it has the mickuni rack carbs you unscrew the water trap ond drian the bowls and remove the screw that holds the bowl on and clean from there.if this still doest help you let me know and I will try to help the best that I can

ok, I do have the mickuni carbs (this would be on a 2000 Super Sport). Do you just have to drop the float bowl or do you have to further disassemble the carbs? Once you have removed the float bowl, do you just look for spots of varnish that have developed. Sorry, as you can see I'm very new to carb work.
I also am wondering if it would be worth buying the service manual for my sled? Would it help me better understand these seemingly simple matinance tasks? Thanks for your help!

i was going to try and clean them this weekend unless it snows, and im sure ill need some more help.one more thing,my sled seems like it loads up just from an idle the dealer told me to turn the screw in on each carb(it has a big white knob on it )and that may help,i asked him if this would maybe burn my sled up but he said no because that screw is just for lower end rpms..does that sound right

yes you should really bet the shop manuel for your sled it will help out alot more than waiting for me to respond in here -sorry man been real busy- but if it is a 00 ss you have the round slide carbs and along with removing the bowls unscrew the slides fron the top of the carbs and give your needle a good going over(dont use anything abasive)if you pull the jets out and soak them in carb cleaner this will help but at only a couple of bucks a piece its good to just replace them
