Just curious what the conditions are like up that way. I was up there last weekend and it was pretty decent. Backtrails were great! We've already abandoned Houghton Lake for this weekend. Just seeing if Mancelona has decent snow left. Is it worth the 3.5 hour drive? up?

Tim,

I know you really want to ride your new Firekitty but I think we are going to have to take a week off:

Waters / Gaylord Trail Report:
DATE: Feb 20 Wed 5 pm
BASE: Varies
PAST 24 Hrs: Sunshine
CONDITION: Fair to Poor

Sunshine and 40 degrees... that doesn't sound like snowmobile weather. ... and it sure isn't looking like it. Conditions varies... Where there is still a dirty snow/ice base the trails are smooth. Alot more open areas dirt, mud and water holes. The local weather is encouraging. A cold front comes through tonight, and high tomorrow of only 26 degrees. An inch of snow is called for too overnight. .. all the weathermen are watching the storm system heading at us for the weekend, and we are hoping it'll be dumping us with snow.

Is it snowing pretty good right now? Are they just flurries or is there some accumulation actually going on? Now I hear there is a possibility of a storm blowing through the area down to Houghton Lake..

EXPECT A STRONG NORTHWEST FLOW BEHIND LOW PRESSURE MOVING
THROUGH SOUTHEAST ONTARIO TO CAUSE LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS
THROUGH THIS AFTERNOON. WIND GUSTS TO 45 MPH WILL ALSO CAUSE
CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW AND LOWER VISIBILITIES
UNDER THE HEAVIER SNOW SHOWERS ACROSS THE HIGHER TERRAIN OF NORTH
CENTRAL UPPER MICHIGAN EXPOSED TO NORTHWEST WINDS. LOOK FOR THE
SNOW SHOWERS TO DIMINISH THIS AFTERNOON AS WINDS SHIFT MORE TO
THE NORTH AND DRIER AIR ARRIVES.

...SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM

A SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM EST
THIS AFTERNOON.

EXPECT 2 TO 4 INCHES OF TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION THROUGH THIS
AFTERNOON. THE COMBINATION OF THIS FALLING SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW
PRODUCED BY WIND GUSTS TO 45 MPH WILL FREQUENTLY REDUCE
VISIBILITY BELOW ONE MILE BEFORE THE SNOW SHOWERS DIMINISH BY MID
AFTERNOON.

A SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW ADVISORY MEANS THAT VISIBILITIES WILL BE
LIMITED DUE TO A COMBINATION OF FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW. USE
CAUTION WHEN TRAVELING...ESPECIALLY IN OPEN AREAS.

Hey John, are your plowing services for hire? My plow guys tractor broke down and he was working on it last weekend. We came back from the UP and didn't want to take a chance getting stuck inthe drive. He was hoping to have it up and running and get my place on Blue Lake cleaned out for us to come back this weekend. I haven't heard from him yet and have people heading up after work today.

Just looking for a plan B.

Let me know if you're available or have any numbers of good guys in the area that may be able to help me out if need be.

Thanks,

Steve

Looks good to me what are you guys waiting for. The season hasn't been that great so take advantage when you can. The pic he took looks good trails might not be good. But the boondocking will

Now that looks nice! My buddys brother is flying in from Florida today and we are planning a ride for Sat...things are a little thin around Charlevoix so maybe we'll head your way. Where's a good place to drop in your neck of the woods?
AllVipedUp
BlueLakeZR - Where you at up North? Your around Blue Lake I see...Have you ever seen the 12x20 unpainted shed right off Blue Lake road with the Big YAMAHA wood letters on the side? (it's 4 miles from the Hideaway) We're the place right behind it. We have a guy 2 doors down that plows almost the entire neighborhood. He charges a flat fee by the month. Around 60.00 I think.

John - great job up there! The trails have been 10x's better this year. I give you a thumbs up everytime I see ya. Not that you would recognize, the one in 1000 sleds you see. LOL

Here at Lakes of the North the snow is coming down - blowing like crazy - gave a nice coating of snow on the roads that had melted. Should be just fine for this weekend.

hey big bore 1100 were you at the radar runs last weekend the 17th and at the green lantern sunday, if so i was the one with the little boy that was so cold at the lantern sunday afternoon

There are a couple out riding right now . got freezing rain and a few new inches of snow on top of it. Everything froze up solid right now and about 40 moph winds. Snow in my yard is still a few feet deep so off trail is still good. Trails looked decent a little while ago when I drove from alba to Mancelona. Yesterday my drive was almost down to sand , today it's solid ice and about 3 inches of snow on top. A little more lake effect would be nice tonight or tomorrow. If it stays cold it'll be solid.

I have seen your place. My husband always comments on your Yahama sign. everytime he chuckles and says "I guess that guy must really like Yahama". Hubby has a Roadstar motorcycle so he is partial to Yamaha as well.

Is your area considered "Lake of the North?" We have a place about 2 miles west of you also near the Hideaway. I always thought this area was considered Mancelona twp.
