I took a friend out riding this weekend and about 5 miles in my x2 died. He went to pull it over and it wont turn. I took the belt off and I can rock the crank back and forth about 5 inches so I know it's not seized. I took it to the dealer and got a loaner so my friend could still ride. My question is what happens,or gets screwed up when the exhaust vavles break. Thanks.

When my exhaust valves broke last season one just dropped into the cylinder. It did the same thing it would only turn a few inches in either direction. There was no damage to the cylinder at all even though the engine was running when it happened, the only parts I had to replace was the exhaust valves and the piston. My motor was still on warranty and polaris sent me titanium exhaust valves they have a much higher heat tollerance.

When rotating the clutch did it spin all the way around or did it stop part way through?

It sounds to me like an exhaust valve let loose. Same thing happened to me 2 1/2 weeks ago. I only needed a new piston and I upgraded to SS valves. Good luck.

When you pull it apart, inspect the small end bearing surface inside the connecting rod. Everyone I've had apart that locked up left dimples from the needle bearings inside. If this happens and you don't replace the rod it will slowly eat up the bearing/rod. This sometimes happens when hydro-locked also.
