Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

You yank on the brake and the light shuts off, if you feather the brake, it will stay on till you hit a certain point in the swing of the brake lever and it will shut off the tach, instrument lights and front and rear lights. Although, the engine stays running.

So it sounds like a short, but what would be the first few places I should look.

Also, how do I go about removing the plastic clip that holds the connector for the switch on the brake caliper?

Thanks in advance.

You probably need to pull the airbox and trace the wiring from the hydraulic brake light switch and find out if it has worn through and is grounding out. The plastic clip probably has a tang on it that you need to pry out a bit with a small screwdriver to allow it to release. My XLT didn't have any clips, per se, the plugs just pulled off the switch on the caliper.

Thanks for your help. I took the seat off and all 3 wires leading to the back lights were worn down to metal and causing a 3 way arc lol

Patched her up and shes good to go!

Thanks for the input
