Freeride 1
I got to ride some real powder yestersday with my 1997 RMK 700 and decided I wanted to stand taller. I have a 4" bar riser on it right now with a 0 rise stainless bar I made myself. I am not sure how high I am going to go but I think I am going to go another 3-6"s taller so I can just stand tall like my buddy rides his RMK Dragon. How have you guys done tall bars on older sleds for powder riding? I am thinking I will just get a set of motocross bars or ATV bars to go in my risers I already have and stretch the cables and wires. If I jack my bars way up will it totally suck when I ride hardpack? Anyone have some pics of their setups?

This is what I have so far.

This is my setup up on the exact same machine. I have a Power Madd Pivot Adapter and Power Madd 8" riser. The handle bars are stock and I had to buy a throttle cable extension. I rerouted the brake lines and actually slid the brake itself closer to the center of the bars to make the stock brake lines work. I dont know what every thing measures from the base of the pivot adapter to where the handles are but from the base of the adapter to where the handle bar attaches there is 10" of rise. I am 6'7" tall and do most my riding standing up and this setup is perfect, you probably wouldn't need so much rise. Sitting down and riding isn't much fun its almost like riding a chopper. When we were out west this year it was so easy to tip this thing on its side, just have to becareful you shift your weight so you don't break your steering post.

With a high riser, I wouldn't worry too much about buying a grab bar. With a riser, I found myself never using a grab bar, unless I was tipping the sled on its side.

I ran my old 4" riser and a set of Moose ATV bars this weekend and a piece of air hose for a powder strap. I loved carving untracked with it and climbing untracked but it was the worst set up ever for cornering flat hardpack. It was like having ape hangers when I sat down. I think it would be better if I narrowed the spread and got the left hand throttle on it. It was really close to riding my stand up jet ski in untracked though, very cool.

These are my ape hangers. Good for carving and climbing but too wide for sure and a bit to tall to live with. I just ordered a 6"riser and I am going to put a 0 rise bar in it. That way I can get the width I want and the hight will be a bit more reasonable.
