This is on the same topic as the OHV act. I'm not sure if you are aware of the Nova Scotia Public Lands Coalition, but I have included their website
http://www.publicland.ca/tusketriver.html. What these people are trying to do is make 19 different areas in Nova Scotia Protected Wilderness areas. What does this mean???? No more hunting and fishing with any motorized vehicles, snowmobiles, ATV's, Outboard motors etc. In our end of the province alone, this means that 300 + Camp leases as well as another 300+ private land cottages will be affected. No more getting to camp with your boat and motor, no more going hunting on your ATV, ORV and Snowmobiles!!! Also, no more using Generators to power your cottage! They want to throw the people in rural Nova Scotia out in the Atlantic as far as I can see. We have been hunting, fishing and just enjoying our forest for over 400+ years. Now with this group wants to keep us out of the forest and the ORV act keeping us from using these machines and enjoying the land!!!

I urge all of you to check out this site. You might be surprised what some of these people intend for your backyard!!!
If you want to prevent these things from happening, contact you MLA immediately and make some noise!!! The only thing they understand is votes!! There are MLA's in Nova Scotia that are fighting against the outdoor sports enthusiast like ATVers, Snowmobilers, Hunters, etc.... We can tell you who some of them are!!! We are planning an Ad Campaign against these people before the next election. If our business is going to suffer, we will make sure their employment status will too!
We need every fisherman, hunter, ATVer, Snowmobiler, Cottager, ORVer, Camp Lease Owner, Etc. to stand together to show this governement we are going to take NO MORE of their BS!

You have got to be shitting me, after a 30 second look I see that the Driftclimbers Snowombile club will be crushed. Looking at the Sackville Beaverbank proposal, zones 3 and 4 identified on the map are there main snowmobile trails. Without them you literally won't be able to drive around in circles even, and that would kill snowmobiling in the Wellington/Fall River area.
The Eigg Mountain areas would be just enough to breakup the good snowmobiling trails in the Antigonish area too.

Their 'plans' for Cumberland County would kill Chignecto/Glooscap club, and further hurt Cumberland club trails by expanding the Economy protected area. We've got to keep our collective eyes and ears peeled on these enviro-nutjobs....

You know I have to laugh at these people, same people you see walking on our trails and roads that we helped make, and they would not venture into the deep woods because most of them would not know how to use a compass or a map, same people that want us local volunterrs to do a search and rescue for them if they get lost or injured in the forest.... I bet they wouldent mind a four wheeler or snowmobile or rescue unit coming by then...., if they realy want to save the wildlife then stop the harvisters from stipping the land and make them clean up after themselves so new grouth can come up and have them re-plant a good portion of what they cut down... thats just for starters.....

I really think a local or province wide list needs to be distributed or made available here or anywhere to inform people of who is in office now pushing this and supporting this and really let them know that there reelected jobs are not just in jeopardy but there is a very good chance that they will not be reelected in the next provincial election.
We definitely need strength in numbers come election time and they need to be made aware of the high percentage of the population that this is affecting all the way down the line, which is a lot when the sale of any OHV is stopped or abandoned or put on hold because of the uncertainty of the sport.
Remember we put them there and we sure as hell can take them right out of there if needed. I think we just need someone to run away with a pro OHV agenda and there guaranteed a win .

Nova Scotia is the laughing stock of Canada. New Brunswick must be rubbing their hands together saying excellent, more Nova Scotians will be coming to spend all of their money on sledding in "our" province.
What a joke.
Over the last 3 months, I have
emailed 52 MLAs: No resonse.
Talked to my local MLA, which is of no help since he is NDP, ie the government not in Power.
sent letters,
talked to Karen Casey, another MLA
etc
What else can we do.
Is Nova Scotia a dictatorship?

The only thing you can do is what you are doing. The thing is that most of the people that are in charge really have no personal experience, and they honestly think they are doing the right thing. They don't live this way, they have not been out on any off hwy vehicles,...and honestly, when people(appointed groups) tell them that it will save the woods, and save peoples lives and Nova Scotia wildernes will die unless they do something....they really feel like they are doing the right thing and honestly don't know any better.
Isn't that always the way when you have someone looking after any project that they do not know anything about or understand????
....If you bring in a hairdresser to look after a mechanical repair shop, how well would the business do?

Some of the MLA's actually know better and are on our side, but when they get out voted like 47 to 5 what can they do.
Oldie, take it easy on the lumber companies, we ride on their road a lot, we use them for trails and need thier backing at the end of the day. If they don't give us permission to use thier roads a lot of clubs will be hurt.
They don't realize the small things we do that make a difference, and I'm not talking about the millions spent and tax potential either. Clubs constantly cut back fire roads that would otherwise grow over, give money to charities, help build community centers, volunteer in search and rescue, and this list could go on forever.

Send all the facts to all the politcians you know. The fact is that humans walking in the forest cause more damage than a snowmobile. 1/2 lb per square inch on snow and a human walking is 5 lbs per square inch on the ground killing plants etc. No errosion form snowmobile use and major errosion on hiking trails.
Animals fear humans walking far more than a snowmible. This is proven over and over again when you are in you car on on your sled and you come accross animals. As long as the engine is running and you stay with the vehicle the animal will remain grazing and calm. Step off or out of the vehicle and the animal runs for itt's life.
These facts and others like this must be psased on to government.
The tree hugger are well organized and they will take it all from us based on miss information and twisted research. They fear us when we bring these facts up. They fear us becasue they know they are true facts and they do not have a leg to stand on.
Our problem is we never get this information out. The media does not want to hear it either and never print or air it.
This group and teh ecology action centre are both extremist groups. Thier heart may in the right place but they are misguided and extreme. Canada was not built on extremist ideas but rather on the principle of sharing the land with everyone. This can still be done and protect the environment at the same time. As stated above hikers cause more damage than we do. Get the word out and fast.
SANS has to step up to the plate as well. I have not heard anything they are doing to go on the offensive with these groups.

Got a call last night and a Cabinet Minister wants to go snowmobiling in the highlands, so I am taking him with me. He is one of the good guys on our side but I'm going to fill him full of ideas. I want to see one of those "Come to Life" in Nova Scotia commercials show snowmobiling and ATVing, that may send a message to the tree huggers. Promotion Promotion Promotion

Good stuff, the kind of thing we want to hear. We've had our MLA/Minister out before, even thru the Protected Area, he knows what we're about. He needs more support though, nice to hear of these things happening. Have a good ride!

We should all make sure we know who is placing the challanges in front of our sport. If you have a problem with forestry practices in the province be sure to address it in the proper place. This is not that place. Loggers have nothing to do with our problems today. Politicians that haven't experienced our sport, people (doctors, tree huggers) that give one sided reports on statistics of our sport and the press that always seems to emphazie the negitive side of our sport are. Just remember without the "Loggers" (industrial landowners) giving us permission to cross their land every trail system in the province would be crippled.
Constant communication and education of all levels of government is our only way out. We have to show what organized snowmobiling is all about in Nova Scotia and prove it is not what is portrayed by the press.

I think he may be saying that some groups are singling out OHVs when there is greater damage being done by others on a bigger scale.

Bottom line is the act needs to be changed we drive snowmobiles when the snow is gone were gone no tracks no ruts no boggs torn up no sign of a snowmobile being there ...Every one is focused on what they can see side of highways torn up boggs distroyed brooks driven threw Marks left by other vechials not snowmoblies. Correct me if i am wrong.

I agree with steve. we can not go to war against the logging companies as they hold the lease or owner ship to much of the land that we now have trails on. They have graciously given us persmission to travel on as well. Fighting these guys will do nothing but harm snowmobiling.
Yes logging does cause the most damage in the forest but these companies have permission form the government and are logging as per the rules they were given by government.
A slippery slope for us to go on.
