Dave, what kind of track are you thinking about getting?? I would like to get a new track, not too sure as to the 1 3/8 or 1 1/2. I don't know if these tracks are any better at keeping clips or not, but I can't seem to go on a ride and not lose track clips.

I am really happy with the 1 3/8 track, It has great on and off trail ability. But I was thinking of going 1 1/4 ripsaw with 152 studs only because it affords a little better top end speed plus I have had the ripsaw experience from the fusion and that track kicks ass too!
I am going to way out the price of reclipping and replacing to see which is more adventagous!
I would say to you that you really can't go wrong with eigther track!

It's the closest thing to actually riding for me (this year anyway). Being out there with you and berry last weekend gave me the "bug". I told Dave that we need to start working on a drag sled for next year. I had no idea there'd be so many people out there. If I would've been able to ride this year, I would've been like Berry - running one race after another. You'd have to pry me from my sled!!

I was on Anchor Bay today, all was going well until the DNR showed up. I saw them clocking me with a radar gun at the end of the track. I pulled up to ask what was going on and they said as soon as they get backup they were going to shut us down before someone got hurt. I took off before they did.
Does anyone know what happened?

last Sunday the DNR made them move the track so they moved it over 50 yards and we started racing again. the DNR didn't bother anymore until they stopped the racing because it was almost dark- 99% of the people were going home anyway. I talked to the one DNR officer when they first made them move the track and he gave no indication of wanting to stop the racing. He said they were just trying to keep it from getting out of hand like @ tip-up town. he said the track needed to be moved because it was too close to shore and there was a point of land sticking out too close to the shut down end of the track and that someone could come driving out from behind the point right into 100 mph traffic. again he gave no indication of wanting to stop the racing, in fact he was giving suggestions on where to move the track to- he said it needed to point off-shore instead of paralleling the shore. I'm going out there tommaro and I'm bringing some cones that I have- the biggest problem I saw was that the shut down area of the track was undefined- people just driving around on the lake didn't know know where the track ended. also imo there was too many sleds racing at one time. hopefully they havn't decided to shut it down. haven't they been racing there forever and a day?

Everything comes down to MONEY and the DNR is there to make sure everyone pays the daily rate or has a season pass just to drive down the ramp. They make too much money letting 500 trucks onto the ice to shut it down, besides its state land with no speed limit right??

Wrong, DNR said if any sled on the non-permit track exceeded the state mandated speed limit of 55 MPH he was giving out tickets!!!!!! He sat at the end of the track with radar!

i dont get why anyone would want to drag race a trail sled down a plowed drag strip anyways all you do is spin for 300+ ft that makes alot of sense

and if you have an actual drag sled with picks and a working tether than go run on the permited trak. its not that hard to figure out.........................

I guess you were not at Otter Lake a few weeks ago. Track spin is not a problem. I realize there are alot of idiots that throw a few studs in a sled they shouldn't be riding anyway and head to the lake and ruin it for everyone. Don't group all of us into that catagory. There are lots of well setup trail sleds looking for a place to safely drag race.
Usually end up using your left over track. I don't have a problem with that. I do have a problem with some of you trailer queen drag racers telling me i don't make sense.

I'm going to anchor bay today and I'm going to ask the DNR about this 55 mph speed limit. last Sunday there were hundreds of sleds going over 55 and I didn't see one of them get a ticket! too much 2nd hand info here. The DNR was once again VERY leinent on Saturday. There is a state law speed limmit for all orv's of 55 mph , Trail or lake. It includes boats as well. The DNR said and I quote," sure you can keep racing, BUT if we catch you then you will be ticketed. And any sled exceeding the 55 mph will also be ticketed as well, wether or not he is racing. Flagers and plowers were elgible for the 300.00 fine" But once they left the ttrail -non permited area they did nothing but chase the obvious idiots that were wrecklessly driving near any other object, for example I seen 4 bikes and quads nailed for wheeling within 10' of parked vehicles at the permited track where we ran, 2 that even went thru the 100' saftey zone that was clearly marked. I did NOT hear of or see any one of the sleds get a ticket on the non-permited track, and they were racing 5-10 wide till dark. Your attitude has alot to do with it. 3 of the officers were extemely helpful with questions and "WARNINGS" , sat and BS'ed with plenty of groups during the day while chasing down the ocasional IDIOT. There were some stupid actions going on especially around the fisher men and their kids. We did have some guys from Otter and white lake out there on the pro track, since they informed us of their first hand encounters with the sheriff and DNR. 1 officer told this guy to do yourself a favor and put it back on the trailer, unfortunately and with regret but it is his job to enforce. So I think a new place is in order to test away from the guys ruining it for others. We just want a plce to set up some timers and se what wotrks and what doesn't. and some grudge racing too.

I was out there today, as soon as I showed up around noon the DNR pulled his truck with lights flashing right onto the drag strip facing everyone lining up. Some idiots ran, and the rest walked up to the officer. The DNR is just trying to keep it safe, not shut it down. He made everyone move 100ft. back away from the edge of the drag lane, which only makes sense, I've seen guys park their trucks right up to the drag lane then stand in front of their truck "SMART".
After everyone moved back 100ft. the DNR let the track reopen, the plow truck made a few passes since everyone still had their machines shut down, then the racing went all day long.
I think the DNR is doing a good job of keeping things slightly organized because sometimes its a real ZOO out there.
Here's a picture of how it looked out there with everyone back a safe distance from the track.

Well I talked to the conservation officer who was out there Sunday, his name is Ronald Pinson, JR. (248-359-9040) he seemed very reasonable. I asked him about the 55 mph speed limit and he showed me his book of regulations- there is no set speed limit for snowmobiles on lakes! the regulations state that snowmobiles operating within 100 feet of standing persons shall go at a resonable speed. I asked him where the 55 mph was coming from and he said two things, first there is a 55mph speed limit for boats operating within 1 mile from shore. second he said that the only reason he could think of as to why a C.O. would quote someone a 55 mph speed limit is if they were refering to speedlimit rules for roadways which state that the speed limit is 55 mph anywhere there is no posted speed limit ie.- a back road. he said that would be stretching it as a lake is not a road! or maybe the CO quoting the 55 mph speed limit was just mistaken.
the CO is not the one who said everyone had to back up 100 feet from the track as they were doing nothing illegal by being that close. it was the racers who were doing something illegal by running at a speed that was not reasonable within 100 feet of standing persons so myself as well as others asked everyone to move back so that the racers were not doing anything illegal.
as far as the guy starting the races, the co said that as long as he was standing right at the ski tips of the sleds the racers were not doing anything wrong because they were not going at an unreasonable speed when they went by him.
the co also said that we shouldn't run more than 5 sleds at a time and they followed that rule for a while...
as far as registrations and trail permits on lakes- you have to have both- some officers will let you slide without the trail permit others won't.
