Buddy brought his 00 xcr 800 to me yesterday. Says it started off as idling high and then it eventually would only run on 2 cyls . mag and center had 125 psi, pto 115 .Took off the exhaust pipes, looked in the flanges and found a huge portion of the piston skirt broken off on the exhaust side. The chunk missing is as large as the whole exhaust port ! took the jug off and found NO DAMAGE to the jug at all . unbeleavable . From reading about it on HCS I pulled the carbs and sure enough, a corner is broken off that carb's slide valve. green valves. valves on backorder till the 16th. Couldn't find any dealers that stock them after 10 different calls made . i'll post pics soon. i know i still have green ones in my edge 800 triple. nervous !

Check with Wahl Racing.

Pics?
I might have a source.., shipped out of Canada. My buddy was telling me $60 cdn after taxes, Pol was $99 +tax.
Can you get the diminsions of the slides? in MM? wink.gif
His outsourcer asked as ther was "fitment" issues with the flatsides.

How many miles on the sled?
It's wierd I had a look at my 01 this year, they look ok. Enough I was going to run them another season. 9500 miles.
My buddy has a 99 mill in his shop, we looked and those and they looked terrible and sloppy.., 2500 miles.

Do a seach on this forum. I think that you can use a CAT slide and its cheaper and might be easier to find.

Yes. Cat # is 6506-119.

Wahl has 4 slides as of yesterday per my BIL. Their part# is 06-666.

If you can't get them, use 1.5 cutaways. Wahl # 06-665.

Personally, I would use 1.5 anyway as the stock 2.0 is too lean at part throttle and probably contributes to high idle condition, especially with a Tempaflow.

Happened to another hcs member last week.
Green slides cracked, fortunate he caught it before it grenaded his engine.

Phil since I went with the new Black 2.0's slides set them to .098 with "I made sure the throttle cable was bottomed out below the .098 start point of the slides" "then adjusted idle accordingly to 1500 - 1800 rpm warmed up" my carbs are set .7 PAJ's 50 Pilots 3/4 turn on the screw tempa-flo or no tempa-flo I have yet to return to any sort of high idle run up.. idle always returns right to 1500 - 1800 rpm.. even after a few back to back hard runs..

Good to hear Roger. I did the same thing but kept the .9 PAJs to allow a fall back position later. Firechicken did what you did and still has high idle though. This is why I plan to try 60 pilots.

BIL failed a stock green slide on the PTO carb over the WE in Northern MI. Found one piece inside reed cage, other piece was gone. No obvious internal damage. Compression all at 140 psi. Apparently dodged a bullet for once. He immediately ordered 6 black slides from a Polaris dealer in Canada at $99 each and installed 3 of them. Earlier tried the dealer and he wanted to sell him the older style ones again "to use up old inventory first". LOL! This is why he hadn't changed them sooner. He hasn't tested it yet. He was experiencing very high idle before though. So, he set fuel screws at 2 T till I give him some feedback on the 60 pilots.

Another reason to keep my round slide carbs.
I like my old school stuff better with each passing mile......LOL.

Phil, i dont know if you will belive this but iam still running 1.86 to 1.
Can take Rx-1's up to 95 or so then they go by,if there is room.
Trade off races with a 02 700 Edgex in 0 to 90 runs.
Have a ball with it.....8-9 mpgs.

Running almond-blue...10-64's
Red secondary-2nd hole....pulls hard,corner to corner.
I do want to change gearing to around1.7-1.....will that give me any more mpg?

BTW, i did move stator a little, and had .020 taken off the heads...i use high test gas.....800 miles on the plugs, running fine.

This is my wifes first year ridding, she has a 97 V-max xtc with e-start and reverse(600)......nice sled for her.

Anyways she took my Storm for a ride....i was doing 80 to keep up.
Never goes that fast on hers......She says she likes the low stance(more stable i guess)feels planted to the ground.
Another vote for old school!

Its not a ditch banger or deep powder sled, but it works fine for me.
I did mess up my reverse lever, forced it over when gears were not lined up ,i guess....I rigged a bolt in there, i have a new one comming.

Thanks for your help that you,Pockets and Don gave me awhile back,Dave

Good to hear Dave. I'm not a ditchbange either. Changing to taller gears won't help mpg much because the clutch will just automatically gear itself back down to compensate for the added track load. If you want better mpg, replace the 1.8mm carb float needle/seat assys with 1.5mm. The 94 had 1.8s and I assume the 95 did too.

how many miles on the carbs before they're spittin out the slide chunks, or is there a big difference between all the cases to which the problems happened to the guys on here...because now im starting to get alittle nervous but my sled only has 2100miles on it and the slides dont look to bad...
XC700(tripple)
I also broke one of my slides in pto carb, it sucked it right through and out the exaust without hurting anything.I replaced them with the new black slides and its working awesome. I would replace the green slides if anyone is running them. Also they were 94$ each canadian.

Hi Guys,
I too have fallen victum on my wifes 99 XLT SP. 3 years ago it to the pto piston all the way up to the wrist pin. 2100 miles worth. Yesterday again, high idle, wouldnt idle down. Checked for damage today and all seems good knock on wood, but will be ordering BLK slides tommarow. Never new about green slides til last this posting. Let 99 XLT owners beware aswell. Thanks guys for all the insite and links, Rick

Got my new slides today. May have changed numbers again. #3131252
These slides are black and are very light. Titanium ?????

i have a 2000 xcr 800, removed my green carb slides last night , and found all 3 slides were in bad shape, this sled only has 2800 miles on it.so i replace them with the new black ones
RogerBzXCR
I believe the new slides are coated aluminum. beer_cheers.gif

I bought but have not installed 6 for my and my brothers XCR's....funny thing is when i read about this problem a little while back i told a friend with a 99 XCR 700 about it.....his motor ate a slide a few days later.

newbi here, heard about this post on another forum(Hot topic) i have a 99 xcr with 8700 miles on it and the high idle problem. i have never removed the air box on this sled she's bone stock. when i do have check the slides and find damage, how hard are they to change ? also if i shut the sled off for a minute and restart,it idles fine warm or cold. seems like it would never idle down if the slides are damaged,am i wrong ? I'm not going to turn any carb screws to fix this,it just runs too good
RogerBzXCR
Well I would probaby start by pullin the carbs off and check them.. if the break the could and most likley do some good damage... once they are replaced.. I would make sure the slide heights are all the same ".098" with a drill bit thru the bore and the slide just touching one slide then check the others.. I made a post to do this.. you can searh thru my topics and find it.. I like to do this with the throttle cable off the carbs.. making sure the cable isn't tuggin on the slides at all..

then I would go back to exact stock setting.. 3/4 turns out of the fuel screw rt hnd side back white capd screw.
.9 Pilot Air Juet front of the Bell of the carb"most likley already a .9" 50 Pilot Jets Stock. and what ever Mains you have is fine for now.. also make sure the slides can be pulled all the way up just above the bore for WOT

when remounting the carbs make sure the throttle cable does not tug on the slides at rest.. this will cause high idle as well.. then you will most likley need to adjust idle to 1500 - 1800 rpm with the idle screw afer the motor is re-fired.

but buy the cat part number listed above.. cheaper than Polaris replacements and exactly the same slide..

PS Welcome to the xcr crew..
