Does anyone have info on the power supply of the newer Polaris sleds. I have a 900 Fusion and want to hook up my new GPS. I have read a bunch of the posts, and see 12v DC is required, but do not know much about what or if I need to hook it up.

1. Do they have rectified 12 V DC power?
2. Do I need the 12V kit to insall on this machine? ($75 CAD)
3. Other options?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Sorry I didn't reply sooner I don't look at this section very much. I hope I'm in time to save you the $75.

1. No. Sleds have 12V ac power
2. No. you don't need the $75 kit to convert AC power into DC. I went to radio shack (any electronics store should have this) and get a Full-Wave Bridge Rectifier (radio shack catalog #276-1185) and on it, it will have 4 terminals. one of them goes to your frame. The other goes to your power supply off of your voltage regulator. the other 2 terminals are your + and - to your gps. On the back of the package there was a diagram on what terminals were what.
3. I'm sure there are all kinds of ways to wire one in but this way coast about $10 US and about 20 mins of time.

Hope this helps.

my98xc600 has it correct, though I would recommend putting a voltage regulator on the output of the bridge rectifier.

Should the sleds voltage regulator fail (like my XLT's did this past trip), you have a very good chance of frying your GPS as the stator can put out very high surges. With a regualtor on the output side of the bridge rectifier, you're getting a solid 12v.

the 900 Fusions and even the 600s have a DC accessory lead stuffed under the console near the handlebar opening on the RH side. It has a red wire with a white tracer and a black wire in the same connector. The connector is capable of around 8 amps so running a gps is cake. For general info, the digital gauges require DC so 05 and up Polarii in the new chassis have at least a half wave rectifier to run it. The 900s are full DC to run other stuff like the fuel pump and such.

I read a while back somewhere that all sleds with servo motor controlled power valves have 12 VDC to run the servo motors. Is this correct?

The Polaris plug n play cig adaptor unit is a nice unit. I am not sure what is all in there, but it probably has a small voltage regulator. I built some voltage convertors for people last year, and probably will again, since they did so well last year. For the POO units, they do have a nice setup, but some dont want to drill holes in there hood or consoles. Any of the 05 and newer, I believe liquid Skidoos, have a three phase DC regulated output stator, so a convertor is not needed. I agree with the previous person, put in a voltage regulator, and some filter caps after the bridge rectifier, and fuse the input. Most voltage regs have a nice crowbar circuit. You can short circuit them and they will fold back without burning up, but you dont want to short out the stator, so fuse the input with 1 amp max. Mine are 3/4 amp fuses, since most portable GPS units take less than 1/4 amp of current.
Hope that helps.
