ive been thinkin about buying a new sled for doin some powder ridin and ive been thinkin about ether getin a firecat ext or buying a rail cat and putting rail extensions on it. i would liek to now if the fire cat ext are really that great in teh powder or if that would jus be a waste of money

Most people say the trench pretty bad. They are deffinatly better then a regular fire cat but its no mountain sled.

Why not just go with a Crossfire. Great machine and you can get into the powder too.

I think it depends on how serious of powder riding you want to do. If you want a extreme powder sled then that's not you sled but if your looking for a crossover sled then I thing that would be Arctic Cat's 2nd best crossover sled. The best one being the Crossfire.

get the racin station drop and roll kit, then you dont need as long of rail extrensions, and it dont trench, VERY good investment

I have a few aof the parts that you may wany if you are going to do a extension. Like a 144 extensions, 8 inch idlers, 1.5 track to match. I loved the setup I had with these. The reason for getting rid of these is to the fact that I had bent the frame in a ditch. Also if you do this loosen up the front shock on the rear suspension. It will do more than what people will say. I found this out when I broke the mount for shock resivore. that day we just took the shock out of the sled and put it in my back pack. we then just tighened up the rear as far as we could. it realy worked better without the shock. Also I have a rack that I had made. for the the extension. I also have ti springs for a fire cat also. Rear and front shocks.

I ran a 151 F7 and it was a fun sled but I wouldn't waste the time to do it again now that they are making the CF and M which they didn't at the time. The only way to make them even slightly effective is a VanAmburg Drop and Roll like said above its not the track width as much as the approach angle that gets the sled in trouble.
Go to either a 51 or 49 degree flat helixG
ear it down even more then the stock EXTs are
PowderPros work great on the F Chassis in the Mtns
Suck your limiter strap up all the way to try and improve your approach angle
Trim your snowflap down to were the bend is molded into it
get the rear suspension drop brackets if you don't already have them some models came with them
Lastly don't waste your time with a 1.5 track its not enough. I'm a fan of the 2.25 A20 track they made for the Fcats but I ran a custom cut 2.0 on mine with good luck.
Also I never did it but I think Mseries narrower aarms would work better
Your going to need to install some TPI Lowboy air intakes or D&D Bulleyes on the airbox for when the beak plugs which it will.
I know of only one person my self that loves there long tracked Fcat and he is running a F7 151 tipped rails, 800 big bore, vanamburg tunnel and drop and roll, many other extras and not sure on the exact track and built it before the Ms came out. I sold my Fcat and went to a M7 153" not trying to put down the Fs just been there and in the end I wasn't satisfied.

One positive for the trenching is that when you are leading through the trees you are a tough act to follow. LOL It makes for some good talk later at the lodge!
