New '07 600 CFI S/B {300 miles} . Had several nights of -30 temps and sled basically wouldn't pull over fast enough to fire .{She's tight}. Pulled plugs and still hard to roll over .
Finally would fire after putting hair dryer on heads for a while . I've pulled 800's and T-cats at 40 below but this seems a bit extreme to me for a 600 . { I know I'm getting older. but I'm not dead yet !!!
Any thoughts or idea's would be greatly appreciated . I'll probably get it back to dealer for a check out but he's 80 miles away .
Other than cold starting , the sled is great ! 102 mph on speed recall .

I have the same story as you. I was lucky to have a 22 year old (kid) to start mine when it was only 7 below. I have 400 miles on it. It feels better but maybe I am stronger from the workout. I did get it going myself on the third day. It was only 4 above. I checked out a starter at a dealer friend. The motor is off at an angle bolted to the belly pan. They use a flexible coupling 10 in. long. I don't see that lasting long. I was told to shut the engine off in reverse, this makes the clutch easier to spin in the morning. I haven't remembered to do that yet. I have used up the blue oil for break in and I am using polaris ves gold. That might help. I shoot a bow so I know I have the strength.

Bought the wife the 07 cfi this year with the starter. Starter failed on first ride out. No problems firing in cold weather though. Always started on about 2nd or 3rd pull at -15F, would then quit after 5-10 secs. Next pull always kept running. Gonna have to get starter fixed for her though as it is a harder pull than her old ride.

Maybe you should ask this chick to start your sled for you. grinning-smiley-023.gif

I have started mine in the morning at -10F and it seems to pull about the same as other 600's I have owned.

Just spent four days in Quebec. Every morning was between -20F and -30F and I could not spin it fast enough to wake up the electronics. Had to pour hot water over the motor, several quarts, before I could pull it fast enough to start. This is a good fix as long as the motel has good hot water.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Trucked it up to the dealer today { 80 miles} . He came out and tried to start it . 6 tough pulls, NOPE ! Somethin's Wrong ! {he runs a 900 SB } He calls Polaris . Check with him tomorrow ! Maybe the digital wrench can talk to someone at POO !
Doesn't sound like I'm alone with this problem.

I've been in northern Quebec in cold weather with a T-Cat and understand what you went through ! I just find it unacceptable with a 600 . This is entry level displacement . Or, I'm missing something .

I've had other 6 ,7, 8 amd 900's and this 600 feels like a 900 at 40 below !

She can start my sled anytime ! Don't think I'm gonna argue ! Will she fetch beer ???

A buddy of mine had problems with elec. start on his 600 . he switched to the Four Stroke batterry and seems to be working fine. 100 or so more cranking amps.

I might need to rent that 22 yr old .
Thanks again for the replies. I'll let you all know how I make out . I'm heading for another Rum and Coke .

My dealer had a second 600cfi complaint about NOT starting in cold weather . This customer was young , strong like Bull , pulled 30 - 40 times and nothing ! In Cochrane ,-30 deg. Finally got it fired up by pouring hot water over cylinders .
Dealer "says" he's contacted Polaris and they are aware of the problem. I've only got about 400 miles on my sled so maybe it will loosen up some .
A few minutes with a heat gun at -30 seems to do the trick for me . But I'm certainly NOT happy about it .
We'll wait and see what "Polaris "has to say !!!! No , I won't hold my breath .

I had the same problem with mine and it was not that cold at all, around 0*F maybe, pulled it ATLEAST 30 - 40 times. Checked to see if it had spark, it did, but I swapped the plugs any way, pulled another 30 times, nothing. Decided to try and give it some gas (its electronics so I figured it shouldn’t make a difference), fired right up, was a little rough at first but it never died.

I am going to talk to the dealership this week.

I have the IQ 600cfi, I have had similar issues pulling it over in the cold mornings. It has only taken me 6-7 pulls at the most but still to many. It was right aroung 0*F. I t will ocassionally quit and the it will start with one pull and keep running.

Anyone hear anything about the starting problems?
I'm looking at buying a 07 switchback 600 CFI, but now I'm not sure. Let me know what you guys find out.

I got my 600cfi switchback last week and its been way below zero up at my camp and one or two pulls and she running. The best motor I have ever had it pulls over hard but not bad its just a great sled. thumbsup.png

What have the dealers said? Polaris has to do something about this, I really want this sled.

Does the 600 HO carb have the same problem?

Smokey Road Rider,
I agree , it's a great sled . My sled starts fine at 0 F. but at -20 F. and lower you can forget it !!! Just cannot spin it fast enough to fire. Took it to dealer and he couldn't start it outside until the temps warmed up .
Dealer said he'll contact "Polaris". { I'm sure they'll jump all over this problem }.
The temps have been hangng around -20 to -30 for the past month in Northern Ontario . Can't wait until MARCH , my sled should start well by then !!!!

My CFI will start after the second or third pull every cold start, BUT it is very hard to pull and tends to run a little slow at first. I've started it in temps as low as -5 degrees F. I'm a big guy and still struggle with the first pull of the day.
At first, I thought it could be related to the excessive oil injection I was experiencing, but still have the issue after performing the oil pump synchronization per the Service Bulletin.

Try giving her a little gas and see if it makes a difference.
