Two people were killed in separate snowmobile accidents in Belmont and Salem yesterday. Three people also were hurt in Derry when two snowmobiles crashed.
In Salem, a 38-year-old man was sent to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass., with life-threatening injuries, according to Fire Capt. William Warnock.
The man died following an accident on Island Road out on Arlington Pond shortly after 7 p.m., a source confirmed.
In Belmont, Russell D. Davis Sr., 52, of 187 Laconia Road, Belmont, was pronounced dead at Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, according to Lt. James Goss of the state Fish and Game Department.
Davis was riding in a field behind 112 Plummer Hill Road when the right side of the snow machine apparently struck a tree and he was thrown off around 3:50 p.m., Goss said. He suffered chest injuries.
The Derry crash, in the area of Weston Drive, sent two men to Parkland Medical Center in Derry and an 8-year-old to Children's Hospital in Boston, according to Fire Battalion Chief Michael Doyle.
The child was flown to Boston in a medical helicopter, he said.
The accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m., he said. Doyle said he didn't know exactly where the accident happened. Weston is a dead-end street off Island Pond Road. Snowmobile riders were seen riding on a large piece of land off the street after the accident.
Their names and conditions weren't known.
