Allright, here's the deal, my friend has a sled he just bought over the summer and while we were out riding he blew out the rear shock. He was told that it has the xtra 10 but I'm not a polaris guy and can't tell. I read in here that you had to drill different holes to make it work, which I think this has. (pics included) So I guess my questions are do I have to drop the skid out to replace this shock, Does this have the xtra 10, and what are the specs on this shock. He wants to just replace it with a Kimpex gas shock, rather that have it rebuilt (which I'm pretty sure he could do, seeing that it's a Fox) Also, why is the rear of this sled so f'n heavy?

By what I could see in the picture, I would have to say that the suspension could be an extra-10, just not mounted properly. I believe the rear bolt should be closer to the other mounting hole (foreward + down) if this is an extra-10. The shock should be re-charged because it is able to be rebuilt. This type of shock will probably out perform the kimpex, or atleast be very similar in performance if rebuilt right. And it will be a lot cheaper than buying another shock.
-I think the sled says it's a 1993 model, which didn't come w/ the extra-10, but if the skid has been replaced it may very well be. Your guess is as good as mine as to why the rear end is heavy. ????

The Manufacture date is 7/19/93 which would make it a 94 I think. Not that it matters either way, because unless I'm completely retarded, they didn't put an xtra 10 in it until 96 so it's kind of a non-issue at this point. Is there any way to check it to see if it's an xtra 10? Like any distinguishing characteristics that only the xtra 10 has? If it's improperly mounted, that could lead to the poor handling that he has been complaining about, and the hard turning/ excess ski pressure.

Not an "X-TRA 10".

Any idea what it is? Is it the ITS or whatever it's called?

That year did have the ITS. Is the rear suspension mount bolt straight down from the empty tunnel hole , in a bracket that extends about 2 inchs below the running board?

If you have pic's of the skid removed from the sled, it would be easier to tell if it is actually an extra-10. Check with JBshocks to find the actual mearuring points as to where the rear bolts are supposed to be mounted at. Otherwise, if it is the same suspension from 1993, then maybe the guy who owned the sled before pulled the skid and couldn't figure out how to put it back together the right way, and just drilled holes to make it fit back in the sled...

it is most likely the xc 100 suspension... we had a 95 that had the same set up

Yeah, that's it. What does this mean? I got the skid dropped, and shock removed. There's some bushings that are dusted to the cross bolts and bent the thing that the shock mounts to at the front. (insert :banghead: here) But either way it was good to get this apart because it was definately in need of some servicing.
