Custumer bought me a adapter to refill empty 1lb.bottles off a 20lb. bbq type tank. Anyone have any experience with these?? I use the small tanks in buddy heater to add extra heat in cabin bath on cold mornings.. Thanks Mike

They don't work all that well, seemed to be more trouble than it was worth. It never would fill the one pounder up all the way

Keep in mind that they are not meant to be re-filled and it just might also be illegal to do so.

With that out of the way, those little adapters do work, but as stated before, they will not fully fill the smaller bottle. And as the big tank gets lower and lower on gas the less they fill the smaller tank. If you can live with that inconvenience then go for it. Have you looked into getting one of those adapters that will let you run the buddy heater off of a 20 lb'er??

Definitely the way to go with the buddy heater. I actually got a smaller tank, (15#?) with a patio grill. It's a smaller tank and a little more convenient, but either way, the adapter is definitely a better way to go.

Thanks I hate to bring a larger tank inside.. but adapt. kit w/ 12' hose sounds like it might work.. Not like it is gona burn unattended 1lb.'ers burn for about 4 hrs. A larger tank would be way more convienent. Thanks Mike

When I fish out of my portable, I use the 12' hose with the tank outside. I do
carry a couple 1 lb cans mainly for the lantern, but can come in handy for the
heater.

I fill the small 1 # tanks all the time. I normally don;t have any problem getting them full. I put the small tank in the freezer and get it real cold before I fill it from the 20 pounder. The only trouble I have found is you can only fill the small tanks so many times. Then you will have trouble getting them full everytime. This normally takes 5 or6 times. When you hook up the small tank on the fitting tip the 20 pounder upside down before you turn the valve on. It will take a few minutes to fill. Filling these tanks are probably illegal.... but we all do things that break the law, oh well...

Good luck, Kevin
