Keep hearing stories from here and there about damaged sleds over the weekend. Every body I talk to seams to have one. What is it about that first weekend? Everyone is just too excited I guess.

I rode with a friend on Friday and we were witness to the pic below. I had stopped to pick a frozen chunk and throw off the trail and my buddy rode ahead. After I stopped I only rode 1/4 mile and found this guys sitting on his Rev, thought it was my friend at first, very similar sleds. Dust was still in the air. He had just passed by buddy travelling the opposite direction and lost sight of the trail for a moment. The groomer had dragged a small stump out of the bush and left it on the trail in a field with a rut leading to it. He ran smack into it. It ripped the ski and spindle clean off the A-arms and skidded it along the side of the trail for about 200 feet or so. He's so luck it didn't roll. We double him back to his farm about a mile away. Turns out he was supposed to be out signing the trails for his father but decided to take a quick rip before hand. Notice the permit date...lol

Becareful out there, never know what can happen.

while he is in to pick up some parts he can grab a trail pass too.

Wow! He is lucky he wasn't hurt.

I took my first ride of the season on Sunday, and due to the lack of snow cover had trouble getting up on the decking of a bridge (used to be a trailer) the result was a hand guard broken and a chunck out of my brand new 20 miles old carbides - I see it as simply the cost of riding in marginal conditions. You have to slow down and be very aware of what is ahead.

I just couldn't stare out the window any longer!

My son's buddy smoked a rock Saturday morning. A-arms, ski, nun, shock. Shock alone for a 440X is $1000.00 shocked.png

LOL! Good eye.

There are a lot of low km sleds with major damage due to the lack of snow, I was at the local dealer and I think they are making a killing on selling parts this year, every sled needed new ski's, 1 ride and wore through the carbides! they looked bad!

You should never smoke rock before you ride? Kidding. Hope he's alright. What kind of shock is that? Even the most expensive, Fox or Ohlins arn't that much, well, maybe for a pair.

WOW!!!

You okay? What happened???
beaster81
Yes I am fine other than the a few sore mussels and my knee is a little brused. Hit a big kind of strait up bump in the middle of the trail on a long open field strech on Sunday. Sled shot up strait up in the air and once it was beyond vertical I thew it away from me and it landed on the tail i guess and must of rolled a couple of times.

Good hear your ok, bummer about your sled though. But I do have to tell ya, when I saw the pic and read your first post "Here's a pic of my sled after the weekend. Looks bad but I am sure it will buff out!" I came pretty close to spewing chocolate milk all over the place and pissing myself at the same time.

Took it to my dealer last night. Bulkhead is tweeked and bunch of other broken plastic. She will be a right off. All this carnage and only driving...........50kph! live and try and learn. Put some more pic's in the F forum.

I was at Warp 9 Sports today and Mikey was telling me he has 3 sleds in for service that took out the heat exchanger from rocks flying up and getting caught between the track and the exchanger.

All the guys were riding railbeds.
beaster81
Hey Scotty you know the spot I did this at. Just before the grain bin shack after the last road. Charlie from Fast Track said it almost got them and they already heard I wrecked it somewhere around there. Its my fault but........maybe someone should put a slow sign up there in these low snow conditions so nobody else gets hurt there or worse.
killer
if the trail is closed that is exactly why there are no signs.. sorry for the sled, it could happen to any of us at any time, let alone in low snow conditions on closed trails...
beaster81
The trails were listed as limited

Same thing happened to a friend of mine about 3 weeks ago, we went out he was in front of us we were 6 sleds. Came up on him he was in the field, the sled was in the trail, buddy has broken pelvis, shattered elbow, broken upper arm, ribs, & more. Sled was an 07 F8 totalled (400 miles) and he is still in the hospital with a long road to recovery.

Play safe.

One of those would be mine. And it wasnt a railbed. I was road running back to where I parked the trailer on a backroad near Mansfield, sqeezed the trigger a little hard on the way back to the trailer. Pulled on the trailer, got off and noticed a big green puddle in the snow behind my trailer... Looked up and a stud was stuck right in heat exchanger, son of a byeatch... it broke clean thru and was wedged right in there.... sorry no pics However, I heard mine was not the worst... somebody else needed a new track and exchanger...a brand new 4 stroke...when they got it all back together they started it to test it and it was blowing white smoke, guy was running it too long with no coolent. ouch!
ramallica
This year in my group alone 2 cats put studs threw heat exchanger, another cat took off a a arm,a rev took right a arm off twice, rx-1 bent up tunnle, i bent a trailing arm and bottom end went on a xcr

charles at fast track did the motor in my jag..... sorry bout your luck tho beaster81.. it shoudl be buffed out in a couple days
eric Phazer485
well where do i start.

this didnt happen on the weekend and wasnt my first time out, but 400miles ago i put pistons in my sled, the first ride out it lost comprtion. well on tuesday me and a few friends went for a ride up towards alliston from GV and shelburn. well about 10 min out of alliston my sled shuts down at 60mph like i hit the kill switch. i get home and find out i ran it out of oil, while looking the sled over and tearing it apart i find that, i broke m runners off and started wearing through my skiis, my sliders are 85% gone, ive needed a track for a while, my PTO side cylynder is scored alot and my and one of the brand new pistons is also shot, i can even get it off because so much metal scrapd down infront off where the piston pin would slide out. the mag side is still mint looking and covered in oil, im thinking this happened within seconds of running out of oil to leave one side perfect. and that wasnt the only problems that day, i had a fuel line fall off and i leaked a ton of gas before i seen it, and had bogging and coil problems causeing hard starting with only 2 plugs.

then 2 days after that my friend gets on the wrong side of a school bus with his sled. he was riding up the ditch between the trail and his g/f's house and came around a corner a bit to fast, went out on the road, smoked the side of the school bus right in front of the back wheel and had his sled run over. he bounced of the bus and got really lucky hes not dead.

and my other friend 2 days before my motor blew, blew his sled up. he snapped the crank on his xcr440 underneath the connecting rod so it was still holding together and made it hard for him to figure it out.

and about 2 weeks ago my friend had his old panther sunk up to the windshield by a new sledder.

definatly an expensive week

well running out of oil is just plain stupid......sorry man thats the first thing i check and top up before every ride, anyone who runs a 2 stroke sled should do that to. Things i always do are lift the rear end up a few times to get the frozen track free'd up, check oil and coolant levels, make sure ive got extra plugs and im ready to go.
Kerry
On the original post I guess you could say poetic justice for not having the pass, but having said that at least he wasn't injured or worse.

Not sure yet, the ajuster showed up yesterday and looked at it. I think I should wait but I don't know. Got any decent low milers left Scott, just to finish of the season?

that is always the first thing i check to, i just forgot this one time, my oil tank hold enough oil for about a tank and a half, so its not real big or forgiving if you forget to check once.

beaster81..........I think I know the spot you hit. Just north of Liskeard there is a dip in the trail in the field. If you are heading north, there is a barn on the right and then a 90 degree turn just after. My buddy hit that hole last season, and only banged his chin on his sled, but almost rolled. I was getting ready to pass him as it looks wide open. There should be a sign at that spot, if its the same spot. Glad to here you are ok!

No he wasn't in Liskeard, I saw it at Fast Track, rumour has it you were at Mach Speed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Out for a ride on Sunday along the Etrail (Coe Hill area) and we stopped on the trail for a quick break. Buddies wife was riding his 05 RX1 and while we were stopped she noticed green fuild coming out on snow. After 5 of us and the Trail Patrol guy looked it over (not easy to get a look inside with out taking off body panels) realized coolant hose up under battery had been chewed on and even found the mouse nest but no mouse. Must have chewed through just enough to weaken it. Lucky it did not go the day before on the way from Chandos to Harcourt. Another problem with this late season.
beaster81
It was outside of Mitchell and I wasn't going mach speed. I haven't got my cheque yet! Internet is a powerfull tool.
