I was looking through the local newspaper classified ads today. There was a 2001 ZR500 with reverse. 3,500 miles. $2,600. Garage kept. Are there any members out there who own one? What is the reliability? Handling? Suspension?, etc. Would this be a good choice for a used sled ? Any thoughts, good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks

I have a buddy that rides one of these and he swears by it. Dependable as old faithful according to him. I myself have the same chassis only with an 800 and I love it! My advice would be to get the carbs cleaned along with the power valves, threw in a grease job,and a new set of plugs before you ride and you'll be set for the winter. I would also add some isoproplyl to. I have almost 2500 miles and never had a problem! m2c.gif

I have owned a 98 ZR 500 , and I still have a 99 ZR 500 and they are rock solid sleds. I also own a 2001 800 ZR. I had 4400 miles on the 98 with no major problems. i_need_snow.gif m2c.gif

For that price I would go for it, clean the carbs, and valves, if there is anything to be replaced, bearings, belt, plugs, stuff like that, do it, and you will have a very nice machine........

My buddy has a zr500... first year with the power valves... must be 2000 or 2001. Anyway, the sled is great. It handles like every other ZR, and has more low end grunt than most bigger sleds. My 600 ZL SS can't catch him until I'm well over 50-60mph. Anywhere under those speeds and he's got me by a mile. AC really did a good job with the factory clutching on those sleds. They make good power and have great gas milage.

:div20: Excellent, but with an arctic cat with 3500 miles i would grease the bearing under the secondary while sticking my hand under tunnel--catch grease and inspect for shavings-- or check if speedo is working-- all cats main jackshaft bearings fail at around 3500 miles--YOU HAVE TO PUT IN THE BLUE SIDED SEALED --NTN--BEARING OR ELSE MAJOR DAMAGE, this is about the only shortcomings of a cat otherwise happy trails until 10,000! :banghead: been there done that :frech32:

I just bought a 02 ZR500 for $3700 with under 600 miles on it. Seems like a good sled so far but I only have 75 miles on it. It is hard on gas though. I didn't mess with the jets yet.
