POLARISAURIS
I VE GOT A 99XC 600 (NEW TO ME THIS YEAR)WHICH HAS A NEW CHAINCASE SEAL AN WAS FILLED TO THE PROPER LEVEL 100 MILES AGO.
I CHECKED THE OIL AFTER A RIDE AND IT WAS DRY.
WHERE DO I BEGIN?
WHY IS IT DRY?
COULD IT BE ............?
I AM CAPABLE OF DOING THE REPAIRS BUT I AM NEW TO THE TROUBLESHOOTING.
OTHER THINGS I SHOULD LOOK FOR?

PLEASE HELP!!!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE
Too Slow
There is only a couple places the oil can go....either out the chaincase bearing seals...check underneath the sled where the driveshaft enters the chaincase...might see the oil leaking there..or the cover seal was pinched upon installation...a very likely cause. i doubt its leaking by the drain plug or upper jackshaft bearing seal...you would have no brakes.

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE
I,LL POST MY RESULTS
ON ANOTHER TOPIC - WHEN I START THE SLED AND HAVE IT IDLING IF I LIFT THE TRACK OFF THE GROUND THE TRACK WILL SPIN. IS THIS NORMAL? TOO MUCH IDLE RPM? STICKY CLUTHCHES?

WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

This is good, This tells me your track is not to tight and the drive belt deflection is correct. When its setting on the ground, idles good and no belt squealing things are normal. On the chaincase look for signs of leakage around the cover. All the best, Sideways

also there should be an o-ring on the shaft behind the lower gear.
if it is cracked you will loose oil.

if it the sael or o-ring you will loose oil to that level in the chain case.
if you are loosing all the oil it hase to be the cover or the drain plug.

The o-ring or steel seal sleeve on drive shaft could be damaged. The obvious would be lower chaincase seal, but if it was bad it would leak during storage-IMO. Sled got a new track on it? If yes, my bet is on the sleeve/ o-ring combo.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's the gasket, those gen 2 chaincase covers are a pain in the ass to get on right.
POLARISAURIS
yep it was the gasket and now it is also the chain and the bolt that holds the drive sproket on had sheared off so out comes the drive shaft so guess what new bearings and seals and the suspension is out. anyone got a trick to keep that gasket in place.

PATIENCE GRASSHOPPER! You could try dobbing a Little silicone on the back side of the gasket in the crease to help it from slipping, but only if you're still careful, and the case is super clean. Also, its been a while since I've done this but if its not obvious by the bend of the gasket, make sure the cut is on the top, and use silicone to seal the two pieces.
