Has anyone expierenced their cowlings cracking? I had mine crack tonight while moving the sled around on dollys its not cold about 30 degrees out and its on wheels so I wasn't wrestling with it but it cracked a good 8 inches next to the bumper off setting my hood a good amount and its split apart a good ways. I can't believe that polaris's plastic is so cheap that it would break that easy. I have heard of guys breaking bumpers off but just cracking the cowling moving it around you can't be serious. Well I am taking it to the shop someday next week and having them replace it under warrenty but hopefully this isn't reaccuring. Its nothing major just the hood is offset, and i got a big opening into my engine bay.

My bad its WAYY more than 8 inches about 2 feet can't tell where it stops but it starts next to the bumper and goes all the way under the skid plate and keeps going can't tell where it ends.
Gettin2Old
good luck geting Poo to get you fixed. i would think you should almost consider an insurance claim.

I bet they say that you hit something. I hope your dealer is good with getting warranty covered.

Most bodywork damage the do not cover.

I hope they do, we know the bumper is a weak point on these sleds.

I don't think insurance will cover something like that. My deductible is too high. Well I guess the IQ chassis is a POS because my bulkhead is cracked and chassis is tweaked according to my dad. I didn't beat or even jump this sled. I have babied this thing. I have completely worked my ass off for it and paid for all of it on my own. I had my pro x and I beat the complete piss out of it just because it was a POS and I didn't care much at the end of the season and that was like 1000 miles of beat on it when I started to beat it in late feb early march and I didn't break a thing on that. I ride less than 700 miles on a brand new sled and parts are cracking and tweaking. You gotta be kidding me. Well I am hoping my dad will tell me exactlly what is wrong with it besides a crack cowling that I know about (looks like its way thin and cracked pretty wierd). I guess it has happened on a lot of other switchback 900s but this is the first 600HO I know about not that it matters about motor size just thats what all my buddies ride and their buddies and one told me that a few of them had the problem from just bottoming the front end out once of hitting the front of the trailer. They should go back to the old edge days where the cowling flexed like hell.

EDIT: I was also told the plastic manufacturer is the same one that makes polaris and arctic cat tanks. So I think just by how thin and cheap the plastic cracked that it was an error in the making of the plastic? We shall see what the 3 local dealers can do for me.

Well it is definitly more than just a cracked cowling
Both my support braces that are black and run on either side of the motor are bent one bad the other just bowed. Its possible the bulkhead is bent too.

How would this happen?

My dad keeps telling me that I must have jumped it and landed nose heavy but I haven't even jumped it once.

Is front end/bulkhead on this sled that weak that just normal trail riding that was rough at times actually pushed the front end up and back?

I can't believe how weak this sled is. I wonder how this sled would look after hitting a jump.
SWITCHBACK 06
good luck, my 06 900 has 70 miles and a bad cylinder head. I tried to get polaris to extend the engine warranty for me but the said sorry, no can do. Polaris sucks, as soon as i get it back i'll see if a dealer will take it in trade. I boght my first polaris in 89 and currently have 4 polaris vehicles and they could care less.

How did those supports bend? They're chrome moly tubing. If the supports are bent then the bulkhead is probably tweaked. I've got over 1000 miles on my SB and have beat the snot out of it on the trail and off trail. The chassis is solid on mine. The bumper sucks though. The most important part of the bumper is to make sure all the attaching screws stay tight. It's a poor design.
