A buddy bought an 02 600 XCSP That has the SLP airbox mod (large airhorn). The instructions say 2-3 mains higher that stock. Has anyone else done this to their sled and if so what did you come up with for jetting and clutching for fast trail use? Riding mainly WI & UP trails.
Thanks,

Most have found that removing the shelf and adding the SLP horn actually makes the sled run richer, and may require leaner jetting than stock. SLP's specs are often on the ehem, conservative side twitch.gif

And I doubt he'll notice much gain by just adding the air horns to an otherwise stock sled. For clutching I'd try one of the proven setups for the 600, like 10-60 or 10-62's, Almond/blue, R-12, Silver/blue.

If it is richer than stock, it obviously isn't flowing more air, therefore it wouldn't produce more power, correct? Do you know how much leaner than stock?

No the richer jetting has to do with the fact that the carbs are vented to the airbox UNDER the shelf which is under a negative pressure(vacuum) during operation. This venting keeps your float bowls under the same negative.Stock the carbs PULL fuel from a NEGATIVE float bowl. With the airbox mod and the shelf removed from the box the airbox is now positive or at the least less negative this puts the carbs positive so the fuel flows easier as the carb try to pull fuel hence the richer condition. thumbsup.png
