Has anyone installed a heated shield plug on a 95 XLT w/o electric start? If so, how did you do it, could you post some pictures and step by step instructions of the installation? I am a newbie and could really use the help!

Thanks in advance!

Find a hot line from the headlights, splice in the red wire from your shield wires to the hot from the headlight. Twist & sodder the connection, cover with silicone. Then find a good ground on the sled (recoil cover bolts work fine)... connect the ground (black) wire to that. Route your wires through the sled where ever you want as long as they come up to the handle bars when your finished. Very easy to do, but make sure you have a good hot lead- good idea to test w/ a light tester when your running the sled.

Enjoy the ability to see when everybody else's helmets are fogging up.

thanks! Now, I think I can find the hot wire on the headlights, but where is the recoil? Sorry... I am really new to this and pretty dumb when it comes to engine stuff. I am a computer guy!

Thanks again!

The hot wire should be a yellow wire with a red dash on it, coming out of the headlight cluster. Test it with the light tester by grounding the tester (connect it to someplace on the moter), start the sled & make sure it's a hot line.

The recoil is in a cover that connects to the left side of the engine when sitting on the sled, and it has the pull cord running into it through a little hole on the bottom. It should be made out of aluminum, have 4 bolts connecting it to the engine, and have a little black box on the top that has 2 spark plug wires coming out of it, (the box is connected by 2 screws to the recoil cover). You have to connect the ground (black wire) to one of the bolts that secure the recoil cover to the engine. You can actually connect it to any anything on the sled that is grounded, but the recoil cover is handy.

-Good luck-

Great! Thanks very much!

I installed the sheild plug last night. On my model (95 Indy XLT 1-up) Green was the hot wire, not yellow-red. Just FYI for anyone else who needs the info. Everything is working well now, I mounted the plug near the instrument panel on the left side... it should work out great!
