snow...where?
O.k First off.
Hats off to GuyFromTheNorth.
He was incredible. Before the trip he kept me updated with the local conditions and answered many questions about the area. He offered to show us where we could drop to get us started. He did that and more, his hospitality amazed my friend and I. We were not expecting him to show us around to the extent that he did, as well as open his cabin to us to warm up during the day.(You have to work on the coffee) tongue.png
We found that *Northern Hospitality* you hear about. Thank you again Jer.

IS there snow in Chapleau??

I think so

Anyway..great riding. Hope you liked the pics. Nothing like driving where you want.
The best part... NO Cops, NO S.T.O.P, NO Trail Wardens, No Permits, NO passes, NO OFSC, NO Speed Limit.....ETC!!
you can cruise 50-60-70mph....For-like-Ever..
It's been awhile since I let her rip... 70+ MPH for a couple KM's on a wide smooth powdery trail.....If I get on a OFSC trail it is going to be so boring.....

I Know the area well!

Racine Lake Area / Game Preserve and beyond is where the riding is grinning-smiley-023.gif

Glad you guys had a blast, thanks for posting the pics I was looking to save some of them to the collection too thumbsup.png . If anyone else is curious we got another 3" of snow over the last 24hrs and it's still snowing right now. That's the snow in town, which for some reason always seems less than up on the preserve and north of that. I'll probably be checking out the local OFSC trails again today while I build some predator blinds, I don't see why the groomers aren't out yet except for the fact that it's a "low demand" groomer area since we're a small town and we all use the lakes\rivers\trails whether they're groomed or not. Anyways, hope to see you guys again snow...where? you're welcome anytime.

Any talk from the club when they'll be packing their trails? The OFSC says closed for Chapleau. I imagine any water crossings should be frozen now w/ the temps we've been having.

I just got back in town literally about 10 mins ago. It was a complete blizzard all the way from the sault to chapleau. I got home (was only gone about 2 days) to a fresh 6+ inches of snow in my driveway and more still falling. The trails I noticed on the 129\101 to chapleau were now groomed (contrary to what the OFSC site says) and looked great. I don't know if ALL the trails are groomed but I did take note that the ones along the highway within 15km of town were, right up to town. I have to fix my buddies summits exhaust tomorrow and hopefully we'll go for a ride afterwards and do a closer inspection. hth

Pics:

Took one of my walkway, as you can see it's a real 6+ inches, it was shoveled right to the old layer of snow we had there, not to mention this area is sheltered partly by the eaves:

My driveway (it's friggin 150feet long, I had to shovel it all after driving all the way home in a blizzard lol)

And my baby in her element:

Can't wait to bust some new powder tomorrow on the trails frantics.gif

You guys are sooooooooooooooooooooo lucky!!!!!! I was up ther 7 years ago..... I will be up there again some day!!!

Hit the actual OFSC trails today. They are groomed, but not as fun to ride as they should be just yet. It probably doesn't help that I had a passenger on my sled (which made us extra heavy and tippy) but the main complaint was how "mogully" the trails were. They maybe shouldn't have groomed it so heavy or waited for one more dump. It's fully rideable, just in I'd say 30% of the trail you are bouncing over bumps. Everywhere else is great to ride lol, everywhere they HAVEN'T groomed is a blast and the roads\rivers\lakes are still open season for a great time. I bet I would have had more fun on the trails if I wasn't steering\leaning\and hitting bumps for 2. A crossfire isn't exactly a touring sled lol. frantics.gif

Personally I would prefer Moguls to a flat trail any day.

edit: How is the -30C weather? LOL

Lol yes moguls are fun, but not when you have your old lady on the back and she doesn't know how to lean lol. If I was riding solo I wouldn't have been bottoming out (hate that feeling) and tipping over lol. -30, not bad hehe, I just got back from playing cards and it's showing -35 on the thermometer, good ice building night, not that we need it, it was hard enough chipping the 5 beavers we caught outta the ice earlier today.

As for how far south I went, I didn't go that far at all. Iron bridge should have roughly the same snow as ranger lake road was seeing (in theory, god knows this winter follows no rules). Along ranger there's tons of snow and trucks stopped EVERYWHERE with empty trailers. I'd speculate that you could ride the trails near iron bridge but I don't know the current state they are in for sure.

I know GFTN would help you find that info....but, you do realize that he is 225km to the north of Iron Bridge. grinning-smiley-023.gif

I am sure you won't be disappointed when you get there. Yes, it may not be the 3' of snow you want. But it will be better than riding anywhere south of Sudbury.
GuyFromTheNorth
PS While I'm posting about the recently groomed trails I would love to add this note:

1)I'd like to thank the assholes who drove their quads down the freshly groomed section for over 5 km, you rutted it up beautifully, bravo!

2)I'd like to personally show my gratitude to the even bigger asshole who thought the groomed trail was a road and tried to drive his full sized truck through the ditch where the trail crosses the highway and proceeded to make two of the biggest ruts I have ever seen and completely destroy the sled trail crossing making every sled have to make their own bypass.

THANKS FOR BEING "THAT GUY" YOU GUYS!
