SnowCrazed
After reading sxviper 1+2=3 cylinders's ""go north young man, GO NORTH!"" post about new snow, Kingdmrdr and I decided to have a look at the situation in the NEK first hand. On a scale of 1 to 5, I’d rate it a 2. I bumped into an old friend at Bessy's and said re the conditions: you have to go through hell to get to heaven - meaning for me on this day that once you were out of Canaan and Island Pond there was fairly good riding to be found. As I reflect tonight, there was little heaven and more mediocre.

We rode 114 to 105 into Canaan, 105A to 96, down 106 to 102, turned around after crossing the rode (Rte 105) because it was bad, went up 102 to 114C to C102/114 then up 142. General observations: lots of deep bumps and the rock detectors, better known as ski runners, were going off an awful lot.

I was talking to someone in the parking lot as we loaded up to go home and his experience sounded more positive. He went 114N and took the left on 111 and headed to Norton. Something I thought about and maybe should have....

I will say that the base is hard and with 10+ more inches of snow in the area everything will be just fine. I hope to be back up there the first weekend in February.

I should also add that I don't think the temperature got into double digits and it was fairly windy - hence I didn't stop to make that many pictures.

Though there were a lot of trucks, I'd say we only passed maybe 2 dozen sleds today

Not too bad looking:

We wern't the only ones at Bessy's

Thin snow on 96:

Let's see if they make it first before we go:

thumbsup.png Thanks for the great report SnowCrazed. I will be heading up to Canaan Jan 30th for 5 or 6 days depending on conditions. By your pics I can tell they need 1 more good storm.

Cool. Hey, how'd you like the wind Sat. night? We didn't realize how cold it was until we stopped. I put plenty of antifreeze in the radiator that night brr.gif

Thanks, SnowCrazed. We were planning on going up next Monday--but we'll see if they get any snow this week. If not, we'll go the following week.
