SWITCHBACK 06

I bought a 2006 S/B 900 as a leftover and put 70 miles on it and it's leaking coolant into the left cylinder. Leaks most when it's hot and you shut it off. The coolant tank will empty right out while it's sitting. I had the polaris dealer replace the o rings in the head (they didn't have a cylinder base gasket) but still doing the same thing. Has anybody else had this problem?
I'm going to call my local dealer tomorrow and rop it off. Just dissapointing to buy a brand new sled and go up to pittsburg for 4 days just to have to hang around the camp while everybody else rides
I do want to thank the Polaris dealer for getting me in on an already packed schudule though, Thanks Guys.

You will not be disapointed once it is right. One suggestion. Get some scratchers for that bad boy, your going to need them in Pittsburg for the temps. A bad day in Pittsburg is better than a good day at work you have to admit.

Who do you have working on it?
XCR1250

Antifreeze causes some pretty nasty corrosion, you may have problems sometime at a later date, rusts the crank bearings. It may take a year or more, but I would bet the crank goes out.

I am agreeing with XCR1250, At this point you should get a new engine!! that crank and bearing set is shot!!!
the crank & bearings are most likely damaged beyond their usable life!! it might run for this season, but expect crank issues in the worst possible time!
I would talk to the dealer first and if they are unwiling to step up to the plate with polaris I would also call Polaris customer service. Do not settle for "It will be fine, don't worry about it"
So, right now you are looking at a complete case disassemble and rebuild at the very least. just a gasket will not suffice, the engine is damaged and will need a new crank, all bearings, Connecting rods Piston and cylinder. basically a new engine except for one Cylinder.

replace the base gaskets. then there is a team tip fr the cases not being drilled deep enough for the cylinder bolts. the cure is putting some washers under the head of the cylinder bolts. the pn for the washers is 7556234.

I have the # for customer service. I'm going to see if they will give me an extended warranty on the engine. If not I'm changing brands. I've been a loyal polaris owner since 1998 and currently have 4 polaris products in my garage. My sportman 700 and my kids scrambler 50 spent way to much time in the shop for new vehicles also but, they had the extended service plan. I've already done the scratchers and a bunch of other stuff to it . I put about 2k in it with the studs and electric start and ect..... I do really like the sled but if I can't get the extended warranty i'm changing brands.
The polaris dealer in Pittsburg put new top end o rings in it on fri but it didn't fix the problem. They didn't have anymore parts so that's as far as they can go. Right now it's at G&G cycle in Salisbury and thet're going through it.
I always have the good ol xcr 800 i can go back to but it' rides like crap compared to the Switchback.

I have 1,800+ miles on mine. I used a little coolant on Friday. On Sunday my right cylinder went out. Does anyone know what the normal operating temperature is for the '06 900? Mine seemed to run between 135 ad 155 over the weekend.

Those are good temps for a 900. I run at 130 with the scratchers down on my RMK 151" on hardpack. before i was waaaaay to hot at 190+ on hard pack then it would drop down to 130-140 in fresh snow.

Polaris sucks, I was told sorry there's nothing we can do!!! They could care less when I told them I'm changing brands. All I got was the I'm sorry. I told them I have been a dedicated Polaris person since 1989 and currently have 4 polaris products in my garage. I also told the I'm changing over to Ski Doo and didn't get any response.
Anybody want to buy a 2006 switchback with 70 miles on it and a rebuilt engine?

Do you have an extended warranty?? See if the dealer will get you one at his cost. (they get marked up by almost triple in some dealerships)
I bought an extended warranty for 36 months, no deducts, for less than $500.00. the first dealer quoted me $1,200 for a 24 month deal with $50.00 deducts.
Telling a cust. service rep. you are changing brands will get you nowhere.
Ask for a supervisor and describe your concerns about crank failure down the road if it is not replaced now. see if they will authorize a new engine or at least a new crank and bearings. if it has the smallest amount of rust or corrosion it is toast, the clearances need to be exact for them to last a full life.
there are also legal remedies for this type of situation too, it is called the magnuson-moss warranty act. I was forced to go that route over a 2005 sled that was nothing but problems and 4 dealers each had their hand in it with no improvement. The first dealer stated nothing was wrong, but the next three honestly tried to fix it.
A dealer change might be needed.

I'm inquiring about the extended warranty now. I brought it to a different dealer to get reapaired because the dealer i bought it from gave me a run around when i bought it. First i had to chase them for thae tool kit and owners manual. After 4 trips over there i finally just bought one from another dealer. The even had one on the showroom floor but the wouldn't give me the one out of that. Then when i went back for my free $170 belt i was told they would give it to me when i bring it in for the first service.

Sounds typical of the big dealers here in south and southwest MI. I could go on and on but Polaris has made it real clear that they want me to look at other brands. My riding partner bought a 03' F7 the same time I bought my 03 SKS 800. His dealer along with Arcticat took care of many issues with that sled as we all know. Point being they got taken care of in an honest reasonable manner. With my sled the standard answer was we never heard of anyone having a problem with that etc. etc. etc.. I couldn't even get them to pony up for the valve upgrade!!!!! I found a little dealer in Glenwood MI that Can give honest answers and great service and Polaris even treats them like crap. It is just a real dissapointment as I have bled Midnight Blue since the early 70's................ I'm gonna freak out if I start bleeding GREEN!!! OMFG!!!
