Gonna be going to school there next year, I was wondering how close it is from backcounty riding? Anywhere theres deeper snow, not trail riding.
Thanks

you can drive over to west yellowstone, island park, and cooke city off to the east a few hours.
if you head south there's some riding in the bitteroots around the salmon area. not sure how the snow is over there, but my aunt lives out in salmon and she said so far there's pretty good snow.
heck, if i was going to drive to salmon you might as well keep going to stanley and ride the sawtooths.
to the north i'm not sure, haven't really been up that way ever i don't think. west is more bitteroots and then up towards missoula i think there might be some more spots to the west into idaho?? lookout pass area maybe?? not sure, only been there in the summer.
take a look at a map, butte is basically in the middle of a bunch of mountain ranges, ya just gotta drive a ways to get to them.

If your goin to school in Butte, just go over to Anaconda and go up by Georgetown lake. They usually get some pretty decent snow. That way you dont have to drive 100+ miles to ride for a day (although that isnt always a bad thing
