I don't believe anyone has received 10" new from this storm yet.. We only got about 2" before changing to sheet. Right now it has almost stopped, not doing much at all.
Also this was posted at 9:30am by the NWS. They were already downplaying it then:
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BURLINGTON VT
927 AM EST MON JAN 15 2007
...INCREASING THREAT FOR SIGNIFICANT ICE CENTRAL/S-CENTRAL VT...
.SHORT TERM /REST OF TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT/...
ONGOING MIXED WINTER PRECIPITATION EVENT CONTINUES ACROSS THE
NORTH COUNTRY WITH WINTER STORM WARNINGS IN PLACE ALL SECTIONS.
VERY IMPRESSIVE LOW-LEVEL ISENTROPIC ASCENT AND LOW-LEVEL MOISTURE
ADVECTION TAKING PLACE INTO THE FA THRU 21Z. REGIONAL VAD WIND
PROFILES SHOW STG LOW-LEVEL VEERING WINDS AND SWLY 700MB WINDS IN
EXCESS OF 55KTS AT KTYX...AS WELL AS THE 88D SITES AT ALBANY AND
BINGHAMTON. OF CONCERN IS WARM LAYER ALOFT AND RADAR TRENDS
SUGGESTING INCREASING MIXED PRECIPITATION NWD INTO THE ADIRONDACKS
AND S-CENTRAL VT AT 14Z. IT APPEARS THE GFS THERMODYNAMIC PROFILE
IS MORE IN LINE WITH CURRENT TRENDS. THE 12Z KALB SOUNDING
INDICATED AN OMINOUS +3C AT 850MB...AND WE/LL CONTINUE TO SEE
WARMING 800-900MB LAYER NWD INTO OUR FORECAST AREA. WILL NEED TO
MAKE ADJUSTMENTS FOR MORE SLEET/FREEZING RAIN FURTHER NORTH INTO
THE ADIRONDACKS AND MOST OF VT...WITH ONLY AREAS VERY NEAR THE
CANADIAN BORDER REMAINING MOSTLY SNOW. ALL ADJUST SNOWFALL AMTS
DOWNWARD TO ACCOUNT FOR SMALLER SNOW RATIOS AND MORE OF A MIX OF
SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN. THE ICING WILL MAKE ROAD CONDITIONS
EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS ACROSS MUCH OF CENTRAL/S-CENTRAL VT THRU THE
REMAINDER OF TODAY.
SIGNIFICANT THREAT FOR ICE ACCUMULATION EXCEEDING 1/2 INCH ACROSS
RUTLAND...WINDSOR...ADDISON...AND ORANGE COUNTIES. THIS IS
EXPECTED TO RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT POWER OUTAGES AND DOWNED TREE
LIMBS AND WILL EMPHASIZE THIS FURTHER IN STATEMENTS. LOOKS LIKE
INCREASING THREAT FOR SLEET ALONG A KBTV-KMPV-K1V4 LINE /BY 16Z/...AND
MAY EVEN SEE FREEZING RAIN INTO THESE AREAS...ESPECIALLY THIS
AFTN. WILL WORK ON SHIFTING MIXED PRECIPITATION ZONE FURTHER
NORTH IN THE GRIDS AND HAVE AN UPDATE OUT ASAP.

Yeah, I'd say the 10" report is total bullshit. Jay Peak is reporting 8" new at the top of the mountain so I highly doubt W. Charlestown has gotten 10". Oh well, at least there is cold following the storm.

AND NORTH-CENTRAL VERMONT...INTO THE PASSUMPSIC VALLEY OF NORTHEAST VERMONT. LIGHT ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE IN PORTIONS OF THE CHAMPLAIN VALLEY EASTWARD TO MONTPELIER AND ST. JOHNSBURY.

Maybe the mixed precipitation will only help for the groomers to pack down a nice base along with cold temps. It will change over to snow again later. When all said and done 12" totals for Northern Vermont. Then snow showers all week. Not bad!

You're right, I'm being negative. I apologize. I got Jay's total by calling Steve at the mountain. I can see that Walden (nroth of STJ, 2000 feet elevation) hasn't gotten shit from Rob's camera.
A little moisture in the snow is definitely a good thing. Let's just hope the areas that are getting sleet and freezing rain switch back.

Just got back from riding. The snow with ice on top doesn't help control. I was all over the place doing any amount of speed, I almost got tossed a couple times. Also the downside to riding in freezing rain is the fact that it builds up A LOT. I must of had 1/16-1/8in. of ice on my helmet and jacket. I have pictures I can post later.
But I'm pretty darn happy!!

Read his earlier post, He was riding in his field/yard. There isn't enough snow to ride trails in Williston.
When carbides dig into the ground sled goes all over the place, hence is comment on almost getting tossed along with the iced seat.

while we're all being so positive, how about this scenario? How about we get a few inches of wet snow with some rain on top of it all around the state - then starting tomorrow, it freezes rock hard before anyone can get on the trails and dust them off...then, on friday night, our first real storm of the winter comes through, and drops a foot on top of the smooth, stud absorbing, carbide carveable, rock/stick covering frozen base?
Sounds good to me - who do we call to make that happen?
By the way, I can still see grass in my yard in eastern Windham county....

I have my phone in hand as soon as somebody gets the magic phone number. I think we got a good 4 maaaybe 5 inches in st albans and it's coming down as freezing rain right now, little bit of crust on the top and kindof packs a little when you step but colder dryer snow in the undisturbed snow means I'll wait till later to clear the driveway so I can scrape it clean and not have a skating rink to drive on.
