Just heard that rear veiw mirrors are required on your sled in Quebec for the 2007 season. Is it true? Are they inforcing it?
dblacks

Yes it is.

You can use handguards with a mirror extension.

What is the fine for not having mirror's on your sled?.. I don't have them on mine and where coming up to mont tremblant area end of the month. Should I not worry about it too much?

They also frown {as in TICKET } on leaving key in ignition on unattended sled .{makes sense}. I'm just not in the habit of doing it. Could be an expensive lesson !!!

Been through many checkpoints in Quebec and none of us have mirrors, never questioned, only checking trail passes. Did get a speeding ticket in La Tuque though caught on radar!
GTSE800
I think it is good to have mirrors anywhere, more so in Quebec.
As we all know there is a lot of high speed riding, and a lot of people pass you.
I like to be be able to see if someone is comming up behind me.
ssvolvo
I believe the law requires one mirror on the left side if your sled is 1998 or newer.
SERPAGS
The law is that you require to have at least the left side mirror. They do not enforce it, but then again, you never know what type of character you will find in the trails.
legend700
it is the law, personally i don't have them only because I can't find a doo mirror I like, if I could I would have at least a left side.
catrules2000
Ok guys, first I have heard this. I have ridden for 10 years or so with the Mirror on my left Wrist, would this be considered ok?
legend700
no wrist mirror is not acceptable must be mounted to the sled.

Not OK, but I think it will be tolerated somewhat. I see a lot of riders with those, and its better than nothing.

Hi !

The funny thing about mirrors is that on a lot of sled you don't see a thing in the mirrors... The driver has to twist himself to see what is going on behind him... The police don't check that... All they should check (by law) is that the sled has a mirror mounted on its left side...

Personnally I have two mirrors on the sleds I drive.

Regards!

Guys....here is the scoop. A left hand mirror (sled mounted is the law) regardless of the age of the sled according to the QPP that I've had the PLEASURE of meeting. Trail pass checkers cannot issue you a ticket. The QPP (Quebec Provincial Police) can and will issue you a ticket. The fine is 150.00 cdn. You are also required to have a valid drivers license, your registration and proof of ins on your person w your sled. The fine for not having anyone of those doc's is also 150.00 per. I ran into cops twice last year......the first ones were cool.....the 2nd guys were pricks. I got clipped for 150 last year for no left hand mirror on
the 2nd stop because my idiot friend actually flagged down a trail cop to ask directions....he got clipped as well. The 2nd guys actually took pictures of us, the sleds everything, for theft control which I don't have a problem with but the mirrors shit blows. Still don't have'm and not getting any...can't stand the way they look on a Mach

Wrong!
All trail patrolers in Quebec have been trained and assermented by the QPP. They can give fine/ticket.

MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
Regulatory equipment.
2. No off-highway vehicle shall be operated without the following regulatory equipment:

1) one white headlight;
2) one red tail-light;
3) one red stop light at the rear;
4) one rear-view mirror firmly attached to the left side of the vehicle;
5) an exhaust system; Not modified or you will get towed
6) a braking system;
7) a speedometer;
8) any other equipment determined by regulation.

for more info: http://www2.publicationsduquebec.gouv.qc.c...1_2/V1_2_A.html

oh yeah, the fine amount is determined by the court. (See below)
CHAPTER VII

PENAL PROVISIONS

Offence and penalty.

50. The owner of an off-highway vehicle that does not conform with the provisions of sections 2 and 7 is guilty of an offence and is liable to a fine of $100 to $200.

Guyzoun.....my bad I guess. I asked a pass checker in Shawville last year if they handed out fines for mirrors( as my sled sat right beside him w out) and other potential infractions and he told me no. Said that didn't give a shit about that stuff. I told him I got clipped and he was pissed. He knows that I support the snowmobile clubs, local refreshment stands and buy passes every year as I usually see him at least 4-5 times a year. As he shared w me their focus is passes.

Anyway better that everyone is aware......I'd be pretty pissed if a pass checker gave me a ticket for not having mirrors or doc's. Rather see them spend their time clipping the pricks that don't buy passes.

and you're right. But you know, If a sledder is a jerk (not cooperative) well he would get a fine. Obviously patrollers are there to promote security and the sport. Gowser, it's all depending of the situation. If a bunch of sledders got their sled stolen with their pickup trucks, patrollers should check ownership, serial numbers, etc. It's a tough volunteer work....

But (all of you) beware, when you cross a public road, and you find QPP's having a tough day, one of 'em could be a tough cookie....

I would not ride without mirror, how can we????
