Vision for the Future Takes Focus

"The New Hampshire Division of Parks and Recreation has completed a year-long effort involving citizens and organizations around the State in charting the direction of the “Initial Five-Year Plan for Managing Public Access and Recreation on the Connecticut Lakes Headwaters Working Forest.” According to Commissioner George Bald, “The plan itself has yet to be completed, but all the ingredients are there. The process was unprecedented: we held two rounds of public meetings and met with our advisory committee several times. We feel that we understand well what people want and anticipate releasing a draft plan for public review in February that can receive strong and broad support."

Newsletter topics include: Road and Gate Management, ATV Management, Snowmobile Management,
Non-Motorized Management, Equestrian Management, Special Use Permits.

I think this is the same issue which I have questioned and not received an answer. A guy had a bunch of paperwork posted at the end of his drive way up on Indian Stream in Pittsburg. I stopped and read through it several times but was not sure what to do with it.

DRZAP, whats your questions? I'm sure it can get answered here.

At the end of this guys driveway of I would say his camp. He had several printed off sheets which stated a bunch of different possibilities. He had questionnaires that had numbers[1,2,3,4,5] you were suppose to rate the way you used the land. I think that particular paper work needed to be turned in by Nov 30 2006. I read the stuff several times and he had extra copies posted to take so I did but was unable to figure out how to fill it out. I was unsure if by filling it out I would be helping or hurting the cause. It sounded like be changes could happen. I would be in favor of allowing us to use the land as we do but did not know what side of the fence this guy was on. I have not read through your attachments yet but I will. I guess I have been trying to get a better understanding of what could change.

Right, that questionnaire was part of the 2nd commenting period with the results listed in this newsletter.
For sled management, what is favored is a combo of "developing trail side facilities and expanded parking areas in the northern part of the property to disperse use and designating a new section of trail between Coon Brook Bog and the Perry Stream Road to disperse use" .
For the ATV management issue, their going to keep the rules as is for now, basically no ATV or dirtbikes on the property but that could change anytime within the 5 year plan that takes effect in the spring.
For Horse management, what is favored is allowing horse back riding on specified roads and trails.
For special use, their against the idea of having road rallies on the property.

Its a closed course racing event with rice burners. As you see in the pic, it does tear up the roads.

Thanks Polarman. I did read your attachment and that all makes senses. It was a little confusing at the guys driveway but this actually sounds like it will open more opportunities for the future. Good deal.
